The list included Billie Holiday, whose performance of this song lives on in the annals of great jazz and live-performance history.
The piece, premiered in 1952, directs someone to close the lid of a piano, set a stopwatch, and sit in silence for four minutes and thirty-three seconds.
The piece includes remarks from actor Rex Harrison, Alan Jay Lerner and Kitty Carlisle Hart, wife of the show's director, Moss Hart.

Classical CD Reviews- April 1999: LOCKETT, Mark. Hollowed Ground. 12 pieces: Music on the Web (UK)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The disc is of twelve pieces some using a gamelan ensemble and there are also some solo piano pieces such as Mono Lake 1.
The material may be minimalistic but the composer varies the accompaniment and employs effective crescendo and diminuendo elements to prevent ennui.
There is so much variety in these pieces and some delightful surprises such as the wordless voice in the fifth piece and the humorous Rejang reyong.

Not too sure about the actual "Mahfouz" piece, but assuming everything stands as it did when I exited RCA, the plan was to record the Witness music late this year or early next with an eye towards a June release to precede a European festival tour.
Some of the pieces from the second collection, entitled For Times To Come, have also been recorded, but Ceylon is the only one reissued by the Verlag, and as I remember it's not very good.
One of the pieces of FTSD includes some horrible vocals, KS reading from Sri Aurobindi or some such new-age claptrap, but for the most part it's his ensemble from the time, i.e., some acoustic and some electronic instruments.

These pieces are characterized by rigid, clean lines, minimal ornamentation and woods in fl veneers.

Most of the piece has a slow, abstract melodic line in long, drawn out phrases, with a minimal shimmering in the background.
Ideal music for a sensory-deprivation tank, given the hour-plus running time, and despite that this is one piece of music, and by default repetitive, it never seems overly so; the fluidity of the music is smooth and seamless, moving with appealing grace and composure.
But all that counts is the music, and James Johnson again has composed a nice piece of introspective ambientmusic that now is put into longform perspective: 1 track of over 60 minutes dives into embracing soundscape-caverns with slightly minimalistic touches.

Final Fantasy IX Original Soundtrack Plus : SoundtrackCentral.com
"Main" (34) is an arranged version of the main FF IX theme (a tiny piece of an FF1 song is hidden in there), and a pretty happy version it is too, with flutes joyfully dancing around the strings (get the picture?).
You also have "Walz" (35), which I found to be one of the better arranged tracks: it's more upbeat and has a lighter tone than the more basic and flat original ("Terra" from the OST).
Sure, most of the orchestral tracks are short (anything from 0:39 to 1:20), but they're so incredibly well made, packed with rich and powerful orchestral sounds, and you do get one of the best orchestral pieces released so far for any FF game.

Note that it is not a series of movies, a common misconception lists Mathieu, Braques and Picasso as parts of this series, but that is not correct, the Cantiques des Creatures was a separate outing, although some of these later films indeed use short cuts from the original Cantiques des Creatures film.
Some of these recompilations do seem to contain pieces of music or perhaps pieces from the series that are not found in (certain versions of???) the original series or films.
The trailer with this piece appeared on the DVD that is released in most parts of Europe, except France.

In these three pieces of music, there is more fury and beauty than most other "prog bands" could muster throughout their whole careers, and certainly the musicianship of RELAYER has yet to be challenged by anyone.

Jewel's debut album, Pieces of You, reveals a special voice--strong and focused on both the whispery verses and the hooky choruses.
Jewel's debut CD ranks up there with the works of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan's,matching their drive and angst that allows them to create music that is a pure art form.
I wish she would have followed more in the direction she was trying to go in in "Pieces of You." Her simple style music accompanied with her enchanting voice was a delight to the ears, as well as the soul.

Some divagations will be tolerated, as it's rather nice to have a little humor on the list; however, the list owner(s) (Joe McMahon at the moment) will maintain the final say as to the subject matter on the list and will move to terminate off-topic, pointless, and (especially) rancorous discussions.

Also, a few of the pictures are a little on the obscure side, more then once a piece of art depicting several characters makes it difficult to discern who is who, even with a description nearby.
Some of the more minimalistic pieces in “Denizens of Freeport” are also a change from Green Ronin’s usually rather classy standards and I personally hope that they’ll not become a regular addition to the company’s products.

It is quiet music assembled from electronic pulses, throbs, short melodies, mysterious samples, bits of exotica, all with the goal of creating a texture of mental and emotional quietude.
In Pieces, Orbit has created a ravishing ambient masterpiece out of electronic versions of classical pieces by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Handel, Ravel, and well as more contemporary pieces by Barber, Cage, Gorecki, and Mascagni.
Using virtually no percussion other than a few throbbing pulses, Orbit has interpreted these pieces, recreating the original orchestral sound of some, completely reshaping others, all on his own with electronic keyboards and his trusty computer.
