Its functionality is demonstrated by its ability to be mounted on the M122A1 tripod, a bipod, on vehicles, or on Aircraft.
For example, an M240B buttstock and bipod may be carried in a vehicle to enable the crew to convert the coaxial weapon to an infantry model in the event that they are forced to withdraw from a non-operable vehicle.
The M240 allows for commonality throughout the Marine Corps whether the weapon is used in an infantry, vehicular, or airborne role.

 Modern Primitive Weapons
By modern primitive weapons (in this case, a spear and bow) I mean a weapon that would have been recognizable to our Neolithic kin, but shaped with modern steel tools and, in some cases, other modern improvements that will become evident in the course of the article.
It's a logical first weapon to make if you find yourself in a survival situation, as it's easy to make, easy to use relatively well with little training, and can be used for both defense and hunting.
Obviously, having the skills to do the entire weapon, from start to finish, with only natural tools and materials is an enviable goal, but you have to remain realistic.

 Civil War Artillery - Weaponry
Modern authors tend to reserve the traditional "pounder" names for the smoothbores to which they more logically apply, and refer to all rifles by their bore diameter, with a parenthetical reference to their popular names.
The gun shows the last vestiges of the highly decorated artillery profiles that had prevailed until the beginning of the century: breech band, cascable fillet, fillet and roundel at the throat, and an echinus on the muzzle face were also features of the M1841 12-pounder.
(Many older weapons, particularly the nearly obsolete 6-pounders, were rebored with rifling at the start of the War, and proved to be of very limited use after a very short time.) Effective rifled cannon required harder metal, but cast iron, the logical choice, was too brittle.

Putin, Russian Weapons Programs - Johnson's Russia List 5-17-03
A vague suggestion by Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia may be developing a new generation of nuclear weapons raised some alarms in Washington on Friday, intensifying an already bitter debate in Congress over the Bush administration's efforts to repeal a ban on the development of certain smaller warheads.
President Bush is fighting for a repeal of a 10-year-old law that prohibits development of smaller, more usable "low-yield" nuclear weapons, and he has budgeted millions of dollars for research into new kinds of warheads.
William Potter, the head of a nonproliferation program at the Monterey Institute, said he was particularly concerned about the development of low-yield weapons, which the Russians have mentioned previously, because they are more usable and because they are the type that would be of most interest to terrorists or hostile nations.

While there are a number of technical challenges to be overcome in building devices of these types, less-than-lethal weapons based on physiological responses to energetic stimuli would provide a safe and effective means of dealing with a number of law enforcement situations where use of deadly force is not desirable.
The idea behind non-lethal weapons is to incapacitate the enemy without actually killing them, or, in the case of riot control or hostage situations, to disable the participants without permanent injury, preferably without their knowing it.
In other words, weapons that are barred from use against our country's worst enemies (notwithstanding the fact that the US did use this weapon against Iraqi troops!) can now be used against our own citizens by the local police departments against such groups as peaceful protestors of US nuclear policies.

Shortly after leaving Iraq in 1998, weapons inspectors of the UN Special Commission (UNSCOM), which was tasked with overseeing the destruction of Iraq’s chemical, biological, and missile programs, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), responsible for uncovering and dismantling the Iraqi nuclear weapons program, described their work as unfinished.
In addition to its chemical weapons program, Iraq is also suspected by some countries of pursuing nuclear weapons, prompting Israel in June 1981 to bomb and destroy Iraq’s Osiraq nuclear research reactor, which it acquired from France.
Iraq subsequently admits to having had more ballistic missiles and chemical weapons than it had previously acknowledged but claims that it unilaterally destroyed most of these items—a violation of the requirement that the destruction process be supervised by independent inspectors.
