Almost all sundials have a motto of some sort, which is considered (along with the various lines and numerals) to be part of what dialmakers call the 'furniture' of the dial.
The motto on the dial (left) appeared on a sundial shown on America's first coin in 1787.
The motto "Fugio" is Latin for "I fly," and one may think of time flying as the shadow moves across the face of the dial.

CBH Technical Library — Decoration VI — Harpsichord Latin Mottos
The lid interiors of many of the original Flemish instruments had mottos in Latin, lettered in bold fl Roman upper case on the moiré papers after the papers were glued to the lid and flap.
To fit on the lids, many of the mottos were truncated versions of much older conceits or biblical references, so knowing a little Latin is not necessarily enough to grasp the idea of some.
The shorter three- or four-word mottos are suitable for the flap, which can be lettered sideways and accommodate two short lines in a double-manual instrument.

Twenty-Five Inspirational Mottos and Quotes - Associated Content
I've had a few different mottos and quotes, but I've finally settled on a favorite, and it's one simple line that fits my individuality and sums up my feelings to a tee.
My motto is a shortened version of a bit of inspirational wisdom provided by the one and only Dr. Seuss.
He said, "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." I had to shorten his quote to fit within the text box of my writing profile, and I switched the order of his words.

Label the left column “First List” and under it, list up to 20 things (items, people, ideals, concepts, beliefs, etc.) that are most valuable to you in your life.
Transfer every listing that is not a material item, thing, or possession to the “No ‘Things’ " column (in other words, you’re leaving your materials possessions behind).
So if you listed “My Mom” under “No ‘Things,’” you could call the concept behind that listing “family” or possibly “parents’ support.” Or, if you listed “good health” in the “No ‘Things’“ column, you would simply transfer it to the “Valued Ideas” column because it is already in the form of an idea or concept.

In a Formal Ethics Opinion issued by the state bar on January 25, 2008, finds that Super Lawyers is published by a bona fide organization that employs clear and consistent standards in its selection process.
Such restrictions place an undue burden on the consumer’s right to know, and an attorney’s right to communicate his or her professional philosophy, talent and achievements.
The Michigan Bar cautions attorneys to note the year of their listing in the publication, and to assert that they are on the Super Lawyers list rather than saying that they are "the best" or "super".
