		to me a trilogy has to be written completely before they first movie started shooting and the two sequels need to be essential to the story.
		You list the Back to the Future Trilogy as a trilogy and define a trilogy as being pre-planned as a whole.
		Personally, I count it as trilogy, whether it was originally intended to be a trilogy or not, the end result works that way.

		I think the movie works more thanks to some striking performances from most of the actors, rather than its admittedly impressive battle scenes (essentially like watching LOTR Lite) and beautiful landscape shots, which should give the Frodo economy another boost.
		For me, John Spencer, who died last week, will always be the double-crossing FBI chief Wolmack from The Rock, rather than his more familiar character on The West Wing; and Orlando Bloom, doomed by his own success, will always be Legolas (or, at best, an elf masquerading as a pirate or a knight).
		A happy consequence of this delay is that I can watch some of them for half the price at the legendary Prince Charles cinema (which, according to this article, was the theatre that Tarantino had in mind when he was making Kill Bill).

		I suggest that any fan of the books stay away from this movie all together, or at least view it before you make the investment in purchasing it.
		If you are unfamiliar with the books, and watch the movie with an open mind, it can really be quite enjoyable, but it's noteworthy that this movie has a PG Rating, not the G Rating that most annimated Disney films feature.
		There are some scenes that I find rather innapropriate for a children's film, including a scene where Fflewddur is changed into a toad and gets stuck in a woman's cleavage, and some of the scenes with The Horned King and the Cauldron-Born which may be very disturbing for sensitive children.

		Lord of the Rings made a bundle of money, but it is high-tech and glossy throughout most of the movie.
		I pick the original Star Wars movies, my brother and I are of that generation and therefore it has quite a special place in our memories (my mom still has our old Star Wars bed sheets, not too mention the lamp they made out of the giant-sized R2-D2).
		The LotR movies were competently made, but Fellowship of the Ring aside, I think the trilogy as a whole lacks either the charm, originality, or the stand out acting the permeates trilogies like Indiana Jones, Fistful of Dollars, the Godfather (namely the first two), and Star Wars.
