If the movie was actually built on the premise that the casino-owner that the crew ripped off in the first movie was going to kill everyone, and if there had ever been a moment where I felt like someone might get shot up as a warning, maybe the movie might have carried some weight.
Part of the fun of the movie is figuring out who gets the upper hand, or who is ahead of whom in any given situation, but the focus is always on how people deal with relationships and the consequences of their actions in a reality where they have 'do-overs'.
With a movie like this though, it's a little more difficult to snare people in with characters they don't know, a director who has never made a film before, and a story that is essentially a slice-of-life kind of tale.

His movies are that of a simple morality tale-- good versus evil, virtue over vice-- where he woos and wins the girl's heart, defeats the bad guys, saves the community, gets rich, and lives happily ever after.
Her filmography, for the most part, is a real stinker, so full of clunky failures that Madonna ensures herself a place in the history of bad cinema.
The movie is visually stunning-- the picture quality is so pristine, without the grain, specks and dirt that can often mar a film.

The movie fits into what you might call the "scientific progress goes bonk" category, agreeing with Gibbon, who said history is nothing but the record of human folly and misfortune.
Whenever movie people are attacked for their expressions, they, like anyone else, immediately fold the First Amendment around themselves as a cloak.
If Hollywood decides that what we really want are movies about the disembowellment of five year old girls, and we buy enough tickets to cause Hollywood to make more of the same, the fact that a financial success is occurring should not obscure the fact that something terrible is happening at the same time.

The American Movie Classics channel (home of pan and scan features and commercial interruptions) will be airing a program well worth watching this October when they premiere a new documentary in their AMC Project series: HOLLYWOOD AND THE HOLOCAUST".
As for the list, it, as always, is certainly extremely debatable (Superman at #26 out of 50--give me a break!), but at least it'll get movie fans talking and reminiscing about some of their favorite films.
In the tradition of the American Film Institute's previous annual "best of film" lists, AFI is holding its sixth annual list (and television special) in honor of those movie icons who, although always at odds with one another, never cease to thrill and chill us with their daring and dastardly acts.

My favorite movie is "The Paper" with Michael Keaton, which I think is the most realistic portrayal of modern journalism, except, of course, for the fantastic parts they had to add for Hollywood (the columnist with the gun, the button that stops the presses).
This movie is one of the few journalism films in history that had a perceptible effect, both on the field of journalism and the public perception of journalists.
In fact, this movie raises a number of ethical questions, including, but not limited to, issues surrounding keeping your word to a source, protecting a source, when corporate can overrule the news division, when you quit on principle and when you continue to work from the inside for change.

I have myself long felt that insufficient land reform is at one root of Pakistan's failures as a democracy.
The Financial Times says questions were raised at a recent conference in London about whether for the Occupying authorities to take this step was legal under the Hague Regulations of 1907 and the Fourth Geneva Convention (I have argued that it is not).
In contrast, the favorite of the Pentagon and the neocons, corrupt financier Ahmad Chalabi, was only approved of by about one fourth of respondents, even though he was promoted onto the IGC by the Americans and even served as president for a month.

A year ago I emailed the participants of The Third Culture Mail List for help with a project which was published on EDGE as "The World Question Center." I asked them: "what questions are you asking yourself?".
If you read through this growing list, you will see that people tend to discover that the most important invention in the last 2000 years is something they just happen to know a lot about.
Thus far, at least, new electronic technologies (radio, movies, television, computers) have been employed as extensions of this broadening of access to knowledge, altering the medium of exchange but not the concept.
