The United States of America is a federal republic of 50 states and a capital district, mostly in central North America.
The Space Race was the competition between the United States and the Soviet Union roughly from 1957 to 1975, involving their efforts to explore space with satellites and to eventually land a human being on the Moon and return him to Earth.
Federal law overrides state law in the areas in which the federal government is empowered to act; but the powers of the federal government are subject to limits outlined in the Constitution.

The United States traces its national origin to the declaration by thirteen British colonies in 1776 that they were free and independent states and they were recognized as such by the Treaty of Paris (1783).
The United States also holds several other territories, districts and possessions, notably the federal district of the District of Columbia, which is the nation's capital, and several overseas insular areas, the most significant of which are Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the United States Virgin Islands.
The United States is also a great center of higher education, boasting more than 4,000 universities, colleges and other institutions of higher learning, the top tier of which may be considered to be among the most prestigious and advanced in the world.

One of the attempts to count museums was a survey conducted for the National Conference of State Museum Associations in 1998.
Some state museum associations reported the number of museum members of their association; other states provided an estimate of the total number of museums in their state.

The first aircraft to return Vietnam prisoners of war to the United States arrived at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at 9:30 a.m.
In an effort to increase awareness of upcoming news and events, the National Museum of the United States Air Force Public Affairs Division is launching a monthly e-mail newsletter.
The aircraft, which is currently in the Museum's Restoration hangar in Area B of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, is being prepared to undergo several years of restoration work.
