Recording Industry Releases Yearend 2000 Latin Music Statistics   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
WASHINGTON—Latin music was a bright spot for the recording industry during 2001 with shipments of compact discs (CDs) in Latin music up by nine percent at year end, according to statistics released today by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Despite the good news on CD shipments, the most popular format for music, the pace of growth in Latin music during the past three years has not increased as quickly as expected, due, in part, to the continuing impact of physical piracy in the marketplace.
Music video shipments in the Latin market also declined in 2001 from 39,000 shipped in 2000 to 22,000 shipped in 2001.

Music video - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The video is, to this day, considered one of the most important and influential music videos ever created, being placed at #1 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "Top 100 Music Videos" in 1993, and placing #4 on a similar list from MTV in 1999.
Instead of watching the video for the music, (the basis for the artform), the videos are appreciated for their visual qualities, while viewers remain uninterested in the audio portion of the performance.
In 1990, her music video for the song "Justify My Love" was banned by MTV due to its depiction of sadomasochism, homosexuality, cross-dressing, and group sex, generating a media firestorm.

sure, it's hard to walk away from the pop-punk-disco-funk music they were making before, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't give their new style a good listen.

Book Review: Middle Eastern Dance Video Sourcebook 2001
Donna Barbrick Carlton's focus has been on NTSC videos (the VHS format that is standardized for the U.S.), but the book does identify that some of the videos it lists are also available in PAL and other formats.
If you find a video in the listing that you want to know more about, this helps you find the display ad which often has many more details about the video itself.
The 2001 edition doesn't say how to get a listing for your own video added to the sourcebook, but this was remedied on the Table of Contents page in the 2002 edition.

 2004 music wrap-up
In 2004, I bought approximately 99 albums (down 10% from last year, which was down 15% from the year before!) Last year, things were looking up: in 2003, I discovered many more albums that I loved than in 2002.
Their self-titled release is definitely my favorite album of the year (though technically it came out last year.) I saw them live twice this year, and their live shows are every bit as good as the recorded material.
I've seen Jill Tracy live a few times (she played at DNA in 2001, and will be back opening for Nina Hagen next month) and yet, somehow, I neglected to pick up her album until this year, despite it having come out in 1999.

Similar to the overall market trend at mid-year 2001, though to a smaller degree, the Latin music genre experienced a meager decline in the number of net shipments compared to mid-year 2000.
In terms of dollar value, the Latin music market shipments, however, increased from $324.9 million dollar value at mid-year 2000 to $329.3 million dollar value at mid-year 2001—a one percent increase.
A contributing factor to the decline in overall Latin music shipments in the first half of the year was the continuing decline in cassette shipments.

Hello, My one-year old daughter is fascinated by my tekerõ and loves to push the keys, take off the wheel cover and turn the crank.
My tekerõ is far too large for her to play any time in the next eight or nine years, so I am wondering what sorts of options there are for small children to play HG.
Ideally such an instrument would be a basic full-featured instrument (i.e., have a bass and a tenor drone and a dog, but not have multiple chanter strings or dogs--just like the basic tekerõ), but would be half to two-thirds the size of an adult instrument.

They Might Be Giants, MP3 Music Download at eMusic
Combining a knack for infectious melodies with a quirky, bizarre sense of humor and a vaguely avant-garde aesthetic borrowed from the New York post-punk underground, They Might Be Giants became one of the most unlikely alternative success stories of the late '80s and early '90s.
Musically, the duo of John Flansburgh and John Linnell borrowed from everywhere, but their freewheeling eclecticism was enhanced by their arcane, geeky sense of humor.
They Might Be Giants maintained their "hardest working men in show business" status in 2001 when they issued Mink Car, a stunning follow-up to Factory Showroom that boasted collaborations with M. Doughty, Adam Schlesinger, and the Elegant Too.
