2005 will go down as the year that cemented the internet's reputation as the place to find videos of frat boys channeling their latent homosexual desires.
Most of the videos on this list rightfully caught on and made the rounds, so many of these you'll have seen, but hopefully you'll make a couple discoveries too.
One of 2005's most popular music videos on the net cost less than $25 to make and was shot in a backyard without even a camera operator.

Music video - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The video is, to this day, considered one of the most important and influential music videos ever created, being placed at #1 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "Top 100 Music Videos" in 1993, and placing #4 on a similar list from MTV in 1999.
Instead of watching the video for the music, (the basis for the artform), the videos are appreciated for their visual qualities, while viewers remain uninterested in the audio portion of the performance.
In 1990, her music video for the song "Justify My Love" was banned by MTV due to its depiction of sadomasochism, homosexuality, cross-dressing, and group sex, generating a media firestorm.

 2004 music wrap-up
In 2004, I bought approximately 99 albums (down 10% from last year, which was down 15% from the year before!) Last year, things were looking up: in 2003, I discovered many more albums that I loved than in 2002.
Their self-titled release is definitely my favorite album of the year (though technically it came out last year.) I saw them live twice this year, and their live shows are every bit as good as the recorded material.
The Epoxies put on one of the best live shows I saw this year (which was, happily, at DNA Lounge.) They are a punk/new wave band in the Devo vein, with a female singer.

To identify you and match your musical selections to you as an individual, some kind of authentication will be required, such as a login on a pc, or IP address, or some other means of identification.
We are going to see a real explosion in digital music players that are tightly coupled to some marketeer's vision of the way people want to incorporate music into their lifestyle.
It is one thing to identify a digital music player as a piece of jewelry, and entirely another thing to actually pull it off.

They Might Be Giants, MP3 Music Download at eMusic
Combining a knack for infectious melodies with a quirky, bizarre sense of humor and a vaguely avant-garde aesthetic borrowed from the New York post-punk underground, They Might Be Giants became one of the most unlikely alternative success stories of the late '80s and early '90s.
Musically, the duo of John Flansburgh and John Linnell borrowed from everywhere, but their freewheeling eclecticism was enhanced by their arcane, geeky sense of humor.
Early in 2005, Here Come the ABCs and its accompanying DVD were the band's first releases for Disney Sound.

Still, if there's one thing lists do, it allows writers to be lazy and rehash what they've already no doubt covered in the past although this has turned out to be one of the most time-consuming posts of the year for me, maybe ever.
I can't say that 2005 was a watershed year for music, but there was certainly enough great stuff to keep me happy as a pig in a blanket for the past twelve months.
Curiously, the Top 5 of The First Half Of 2005 list I posted back in July just preceded my exposure to most of the albums that made the final cut, but a few managed to carry over and the others just barely got bumped down to honourable mention status.

Ashley Cleveland has long been heralded as one of the greatest voices in the history of Christian music, and her bluesy, smoky pipes are a comfortable match for these church standards.
Though musically it resembles much of her past work, the piano-based folk pop is nevertheless almost flawless in its execution.
The music is polished and varied, bouncing between pop, rock, urban, and gospel.

A year ago, we dubbed 2005 the Year of the iPod—the year when Apple’s line of portable players, and the slew of unique accessories surrounding it, made things abundantly clear that the iPod ruled the roost.
Since we get a chance to play with these accessories (or, to put it more professionally, “test and evaluate them”), we’ve got a pretty good idea of which products surpassed expectations to be the best in their class.

Playlist: Smart Playlists make holiday music sound sweet
Thanks to its ability (at least in some models) to store photos and videos, your iPod makes it easy to share this year’s treasured memories with family and friends.
Although this will entail a little more work on the front-end, over time -- especially when it’s time to come back again next year and the year after that -- it should save quite a bit of sorting and organizing.
For example, to create a great set of holiday music for a cocktail party, create a new smart playlist in iTunes, and select “genre” from the pulldown menu on the left.
