One way of studying a culture is to study the underlying mythological beliefs of that culture, the time period of the origins of the culture’s myths, the role of myth in society, the symbols used to represent myths, the commonalties and differences regarding mythology, and the understanding a culture has of its myths.
It is not meant to be an extensive listing or study of all the creation myths, but a sampling of the wide diversity of myths.
Although the stories in the suggested reading list are not representative of the wide diversity of African mythology, they do present us with samples of animals as primary characters in creating order and reason out of chaos and accident.

One possibility: Perhaps Mark included that detail to show that others were affected by this storm also and witnessed it, so it was not a mythological occurrence, and in witnessing the storm and then the calm they too benefited from Jesus’ power, and perhaps even witnessed it.

In my opinion, the challenging analysis and study of the instrument (or instruments) he did play, and the unorthodox way he customized it and taught himself to play it, is much more interesting and magical than the original supposition that he played a standard, more easily playable Dolceola (however uncommon).
Various tracks are possibly the latter, this track seems to use pairs tuned in octaves to my ear.
Pat Contem who wrote the liner notes for the original CD release, "I Am Born to Preach the Gospel" (Yazoo #2003), provided new notes for the new release and paraphrases the conclusions of Garry Harrison, Kelly Williams and myself.

As a result of his research he lists the Maya language words, not at all suspecting that many of them coincide with the Türkic words.
