Topic: List of natural gas fields

Natural gas field - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oil and natural gas are produced by the same geological process: anaerobic decay of organic matter deep under the Earth's surface.
The deeper the source, the "drier" the gas (that is, the smaller the proportion of condensates in the gas).
Because both oil and natural gas are lighter than water, they tend to rise from their sources until they either seep to the surface or are trapped by a non-permeable layer of rock.

 Natural Gas
Natural gas was first used in America to illuminate the streets of Baltimore in 1816.
Natural gas can be used in any vehicle with a regular internal combustion engine, although the vehicle must be outfitted with a special carburetor and fuel tank.
Natural gas also has less sulfur and nitrogen compounds, and it emits less ash particulates into the air when it is burned than coal or petroleum fuels.

As large, conventional natural gas deposits are extracted, the natural gas left in the ground is commonly found in less conventional deposits, which are harder to discover and produce than has historically been the case.
Despite the fact that natural gas deposits are continually being found deeper in the ground, in remote, inhospitable areas that provide a challenging environment in which to produce natural gas, the exploration and production industry has not only kept up its production pace, but in fact has improved the general nature of its operations.
The natural gas industry is joined by government agencies and laboratories, private research and development firms, and environmental technology groups in coming up with new technologies that may improve the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental soundness of the natural gas industry.

CNG   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is an economical automobile fuel, which substantially reduces transportation costs for motorists while protecting the environment and saving the country's foreign exchange spent on the import of liquid fuels.
Natural gas after being compressed at high pressure is filled in the vehicles at CNG stations so as to give your vehicle a reasonable range between refills.
It is a natural gas mainly composed of methane; therefore, its exhaust emissions consist of water vapors and a small fraction of carbon mono-oxide.

Natural gas is an important and powerful energy source that has hundreds of uses: from cooking food in ovens, on ranges or barbecue grills, to helping in the production of herbicides, detergents, and antifreeze.
The natural gas flame in the appliance should burn "true and blue." Yellow or orange flames indicate that the appliance should be checked.
Gas Ovens are perfect for cooking or broiling, but are not meant to be used as heaters or clothes dryers.

 History
The rich literature of manufactured gas was established with the world looking to Britain and already the health sciences were reporting such connected diseases as scrotal cancer among British chimney sweeps, who had close body contact with coal tars in their work.
Discharge of gas house residuals, to the atmosphere, the ground and surface waters began to cause reports of death to aquatic life, contamination of drinking water, destruction of crops, and associated health problems.
Although it was possible to burn gas tars or to dehydrate such, many gas plant operators were dumping unsalable tar-water emulsions to the environment and the problem only worsened with new wartime coke shortages, during which time carburetted water gas plants continued the substitution of soft coals for coke, aggravating the tar-water emulsion problem.

Exploitation of the field requires long-term purchase contracts and regional cooperation since the major potential market for Kudu gas is in neighbouring South Africa.
The project entails piping natural gas, over a distance of 700 kilometres, from the Kudu Gas Fields off the coast of Namibia to the Western Cape to be used in a gas-fired power station.
Gas is also planned to be piped for phase II of the coal based Corex plant in Saldanha, a joint venture between the Industrial Development Corporation and Iscor.

Natural gas provides approximately 14 percent of the energy used to generate electricity in this country, 45 percent of home heating fuel and 31 percent of the energy and petrochemicals consumed by agriculture and industry.
A key factor in the geopolitics of natural gas is the heavy concentration of reserves in a relatively small number of producing countries.
The gas lobby kicked a goal when it convinced us all that the methane it pushes down its pipes is something called "natural gas" and pretended it's not a fossil fuel.

Iran to India Natural Gas Pipeline
Natural gas trade between India, Iran, and Pakistan challenges the geopolitical, historical, and strategic realities of the three countries and the general regions of the Mideast and Asia.
The main environmental benefit of using natural gas is that in switching from high-carbon coal to low-carbon natural gas, the output of carbon dioxide is reduced.
The cultivation of natural gas reserves could transform and displace the agricultural economy of rural communities, replacing it with a situation where cheap labor is required for construction of the pipeline and other industrial purposes.

Oil and natural gas exist in the pore spaces of rock in the subsurface of the earth.
A primary source for worldwide reserves estimates is the Oil and Gas Journal (OGJ).[1] OGJ estimates that at the beginning of 2004, worldwide reserves were 1.27 trillion barrels of oil and 6,100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
These estimates are 53 billion barrels of oil and 575 trillion cubic feet of natural gas higher than the prior year, reflecting additional discoveries, improving technology, and changing economics.
