In Russia a far higher share of state-owned assets were sold to managers and workers, or "insiders," compared to the former Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Poland.
But in Russia, in the most radical stage of privatization, 1994, only 6.3% of the economically active population was unemployed (a far larger share of the population is underemployed).

Many of internal Russian republics with large non-Russian populations use both Russian and another language for official business and some, notably Tatarstan, had sought to use the Latin alphabet for those second languages.
The decree was softened by a clause saying that other alphabets may be used if federal laws to that effect are passed, suggesting regional leaders could petition for the right to use other alphabets for their languages.
He said the federal parliament and the parliament of Tatarstan should hold a dialogue on language issues in an effort to make Russia's legislation as fair as possible, Interfax reported.
