List context was manipulated by testing a prime-target pair either in a list in which almost all the other pairs had the same relation as itself or in a list in which almost all the others had some other relation.
The two pairs that matched the list context were presented in list positions 9 and 29, the two pairs that did not match the context were presented in positions 12 and 32, and the two unprimed pairs were presented in positions 20 and 40.
For pairs tested in a list context of the same relation as themselves, mean response time was 458 ms; for pairs tested in a different list context, the mean was 467 ms; and for unprimed pairs the mean was 471 ms.

The second is a list of scores from the first midterm; the first score belongs to the first student in the previous list, the second score belongs to the second student, and so on.
Each list within the list will contain a pair of elements; the first element is a student's name and the second element is an indication of how the student's second midterm score compares to that student's first midterm score.
But instead of just returning a list of atoms, as flatten does, flatten-with-depth returns a list of two-element lists, where the first element of each pair is an atom from the input list structure, and the second element is a number representing the depth of the atom in the original structure.

With the development of paired donations, concerns have arisen that the mutual promises to donate organs could be considered “valuable consideration” under Section 301 of NOTA.
It is important to note that while paired donations were not conceived at the time NOTA was written over 20 years ago, they are in keeping with all of NOTA’s provisions and protections and should be permitted.
And, the practice of paired donations has the potential to increase the number of living donor transplants dramatically, as there are a large number of potential living donors who are biologically incompatible with their intended recipients.

This particular list is a list, not a set of descriptions for a particular term.
Your term “pairing” I think is also worth mentioning again, and probably a good hint to gauge whether or not to use a definition list.
However, regarding definition lists, I think there is a broad spectrum of opinions, some of them valid (defensible within the context of the specification where DL etc. is itself defined, so to speak).

 En Dashes and Em Dashes
Dashes can be used in pairs like parentheses—that is, to enclose a word, or a phrase, or a clause—or they can be used alone to detach one end of a sentence from the main body.
Dashes are particularly useful in a sentence that is long and complex or in one that has a number of commas within it.
If we had used a hyphen in place of each dash, it would seem as though we had hyphenated two pairs of words in the sentence: "parentheses-that" and "clause-or," neither pair of which makes any sense.

Abstract: In spring 1994, a study was conducted to compare student outcomes for instructors use of a mixed teaching repertoire (i.e., lecture, student-centered discussion, cooperative learning, and computer-assisted instruction) and those using lectures alone in social science, science/math, humanities, and business classes at Cosumnes River College, in California.
Based on surveys of instructors and students and class observations, 22 matched pairs of courses were determined based on instructor technique.
In addition, the ethnicity, gender, age, and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) status of the 812 students in the lecture-only and the 603 in the mixed-repertoire courses were analyzed to determine group outcomes.

Matter/anti-matter pairs are created out of ENERGY, for example in the form of a photon which "splits" into one electron and one positron.
It follows that the initial energy E of the photon which originally split in an antimatter/matter pair will be equal to the energy E' resulting from the annihilation of the pair (the argument is the same if the positron resulting from the first pair is annihilated with a different electron, only a bit more involved).
The whole premise of using plastic magnets to slip the anti-matter container through the Vatican metal detectors is flawed, since metal detectors don't react to metals as such, but to magnetic fields (normally induced in metal objects by the alternating magnetic field of the detector).

In a new study, David Orme, Kevin Gaston, and colleagues revisit this issue by studying the global distribution of a major taxonomic group—birds—and show that spatial patterns of range size across the globe do not follow a simple north-to-south rule.
