Parrot - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
Parrots have a characteristic curved beak shape with the upper mandible having slight mobility in the joint with the skull and a generally erect stance.
All parrots are zygodactyl, having the four toes on each foot placed two at the front and two back.
Parrots are kept as pets, particularly conures, macaws, amazons, cockatoos, cockatiels, and budgerigars (also known as parakeets).

Parrot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Birds of the parrot family can be found in most of the warm parts of the world, including India, southeast Asia and west Africa, with one species, now extinct, in the United States (the Carolina Parakeet).
Other scholars claim that parrots are only repeating words with no idea of their meanings and point to Pepperberg's results as being nothing but an expression of operant conditioning.
The scale of the problem can be appreciated in the Tony Silva case of 1996, in which a world-renowned parrot expert and former director at Tenerife's Loro Parque (Europe's largest parrot park) was jailed in the US for 82 months and fined $100,000 for smuggling the birds 1.

Psittaciformes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Birds of the parrot families can be found in most of the warmer parts of the world, including India, South East Asia and West Africa, with one species, now extinct, in the United States (the Carolina Parakeet).
The parrot family's fossil record, however, is sparse and their origin remains a matter of informed speculation rather than fact.
At this point, however, is found the first unambiguous parrot fossil (as opposed to a parrot-like one), an upper jaw which is indistinguishable from that of a modern white cockatoo.

 Birds - Glowing parrots
Some species of parrots react strongly from many parts of the body; others fluoresce only from restricted areas; and some showed no evidence of the special pigment at all.
It may be that fluorescence is no more than a property of this particular pigment and it may not 'represent' anything to the parrots; however, the position on the body of the fluorescing sections suggests that these may have a function.
Parrots are prominent among these, but one of their pigments has a special character - it glows in ultraviolet light.

 about
This Kakariki's disappearance from the main islands is thought to be due to the introduction of a host of smaller predators such as rats, cats, stoats and weasels, and possibly also exotic disease.
Last century 'plague' proportions of this Kakariki were recorded in the vicinity of fruit orchards; it was also the parrot most adapted to utilising the newly cleared grazing country.
The future for New Zealand's parrots overall is not a bright one with the continuing twin forces of habitat destruction and introduced predators reducing populations.

BrooklynParrots.com: A Web Site About the Wild Parrots of Brooklyn
I visited the wild monk parrots of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, in the summer of 2005 but was never satisfied with the photos I took.
The parrots nests are in large stadium light fixtures positioned around the athletic field known as "The Dust Bowl." It's uncanny how much this scene resembles that in Brooklyn College and in the Bronx.
In so far as the monk parrot is "introduced," well, that's pretty much uncontestable: these parrots didn't fly to Brooklyn or the Bronx on their own, and nobody claims they did.

If a species occurs on the mainland (not as a vagrant) and also on an island territory, it is not listed with a superscript.

Parrots Lovebirds Amazon Senegal Pet Birds
Parrot-Parrot is a site dedicated to the smaller parrots such as lovebirds (Agapornis species) and budgies (parakeets), but it is also an excellent resource for information on ALL birds and parrots, with pages dedicated to our favorite amazon parrot (Inca, the Amazon Queen) and that devilishly handsome Senegal parrot, Maxwell.
We give you the best books on lovebirds, amazons, budgies, and other parrots, as well as on bird behavior and avian nutrition (books on growing wheatgrass and sprouting are excellent resources), and don't miss our special section that carries technical avian veterinarian texts.
Although many people think a small parrot such as a lovebird or budgie is "easier" they still require quite a bit of time and care compared with cats or dogs.

Few articles have been written concerning N.Z. parrots in Parrot Society of Australia News in the past, it therefore appears timely to relate the present situation, with the aim to increase awareness and appreciation for what are some of the most distinctive, specialised and, sadly, rarest parrots in the world.
The Kea is the only true alpine parrot in the world and its distribution is confined to the alps and high country of the South Island.
The smaller relative to the Kea is the less well known Kaka, a basically sombre, brown coloured parrot almost the size and shape of a Glossy Black Cockatoo with the same heavy, powerful bill ideal for ripping into wood in search of grubs and other invertebrate life.
