List of Major Illicit Drug-Producing or Major Drug-Transit Countries
I note that a country's presence on the list of major drug-transit countries is not an adverse reflection on its government's counternarcotics efforts or on the level of its cooperation with the United States.
Consistent with the statutory definition of a major drug-transit country set forth in section 481(e)(5) of the FAA, among the reasons that major drug-transit countries are placed on the list is the combination of geographical, commercial, and economic factors that allow drugs to transit despite the most assiduous enforcement measures of the government concerned.
Belize was removed from the list of major drug-transit countries in 1999 because there was clear evidence that the drug trade was not currently using it as a transit point for drugs moving to the United States.

Europe has championed and financed advanced positions on many large global issues, including protection of the environment, peacekeeping and aid to developing countries.
The five largest countries of Europe, plus others such as Denmark, wrestle visibly and painfully with the difficulties posed by the presence of important and growing Muslim minorities.
These countries are thus modern laboratories where both the tensions and the potential terms of mutual understanding between the West and Islam are tested and explored daily in concrete settings.

Europe is held hostage by the spectre of the ethnically pure nation-state.
The Roma are a European minority and citizens of the countries in which they live; their participation process needs to draw on common roots and common perspectives beyond citizenship, group affiliation, or country of residence.
At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the civil rights movement of Roma in Europe, to enable them to be in a position to fight for the concerns of their people.

The Red List can be used to: provide information on the conservation status of individual species; guide the listing of individual species in national or international legislation; aid in conservation planning and priority setting; help to identify priority species for conservation action and recovery planning; and support educational programmes.

There have been many statements made recently referring to the new EU member states as new members of Europe, but many in these countries rightly feel that there is a common European heritage that has existed long before negotiations for accession began.
A sudden shift to a western European concept of identity by these countries should not be expected, especially because many of these countries define themselves by what they are not--namely, like their neighbors.
The question of a clear, common political identity throughout the EU countries was contested, as was the idea of common foreign and security interests.

So the real danger posed by Europe's speech laws is not so much guilty verdicts as an insidious chilling of political debate, as people censor themselves in order to avoid legal charges and the stigma and expense they bring.
European politicians, media outlets, and university discussions are routinely uncomfortable airing information--say, about rates of crime--that reflects unfavorably on the members of groups such as citizens of African or Middle Eastern descent, for fear that it will fuel negative stereotypes of these groups and open the broadcaster to charges of inciting hatred.
That would cease to make Europe a role model for censorship and restore it as a model of core democratic rights instead, expanding and not contracting its moral authority in the world.

The aim of the volume titled THE LANGUAGES OF EUROPE seems to be the exploration of this complex linguistic situation in Europe, where many individuals are typically bilingual and minority groups face the problem of acquiring proficiency in at least two languages to be able to fully function on the national level.
The main point this group of articles makes is that some of these countries are good examples of fair treatment and the others need to improve their treatment of the immigrant minorities.
