  Registered sex offender docket to grow in Maine
The Maine Department of Public Safety is currently notifying sex offenders about changes in state law that may require them to register in their hometowns.
Jackie Theriault, of the Maine State Bureau of Identification, said the state is already informing officers throughout the state about the details of the new law and what is to be expected of police departments.
People convicted of one of the crimes will be classified either as a "sexual offender," who will be placed on the registry for 10 years, or as a "sexually violent predator," who will be on the list for life.

Air quality has improved to the point that Maine is considering trying to get nine coastal counties removed from a list of places that exceed federal standards for ground level ozone, officials said.
Removing the nine counties from the federal list is a "technical matter" that does not mean the problem of ozone pollution is solved, said Jeff Crawford of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
People with asthma, along with children and the elderly, are warned to avoid strenuous activities during times of elevated ozone levels.
