Cardiff Council has confirmed that some of the 11 primary and six secondary schools earmarked in a city-wide reorganisation of educational services will close.
Headteachers from the schools affected were called to a meeting at Cardiff Council yesterday and families were due to be informed by letter if their school was on the list.
Delme Bowen, Plaid Cymru group leader on Cardiff Council, said that about 16% of classroom places in Cardiff were currently empty, a figure which is costing the council £3 million a year.

Cardiff, although not the biggest city on the map, is still a city and has a huge amount of things to do.
We won't mention too many of these here because there are a hundred other websites telling you what you can do in Cardiff and Wales.
I'll mention a few like Castel Coch just up the A470 out of Cardiff, Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay (although I can't work out what the attraction is - go and see how much has been spent on doing up the Bay and putting up sculptures and water features.
