 Fields and Moorlands in County Durham before the Black Death
The red dots on the overhead indicate places with a 'moor' element on the modern Ordnance Survey map, and show that they concentrate on the highest part of the plateau, especially in the northern half of the region.
Four of them, besides having parish churches, were places of significance for large estates, so they were to that extent centres of secular as well as ecclesiastical authority.
It is one of the attractions of the region between Durham and the Sea that, because of its relatively tardy development, its charters can contribute towards answering these questions, and the remainder of what I have to say will be devoted to this issue.

Durham, formed from Coxsackie, as Freehold, March 8,1790, changed to the present title in 1805.
There were probably settlers on the lands of the town at an early date, but there was nothing permanent in the way of a settlement until 1782, when a number returned to their former clearings and again took up the work of development.

Currently, this trail in Chatham County is being cleared and maintained by the Triangle Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (TRTC) www.triangletrails.org in cooperation with the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Department.
The first 1/4 mile of the trail north of O'Kelly is extremely rough in places due to repairs currently in progress by TRTC volunteers of old logging equipment ruts.
Purpose: The coalition is a collaborative effort between county citizens and agencies advocating for health through physical activity and fitness.

In the Wake County public school system, which includes Raleigh and the surrounding suburbs, the school system adopted a plan under which no school should have more than 40 percent of students eligible for free or reduced price lunch.
