Herefordshire had few natural resources, so the industrial scars that spoil many counties are mercifully absent; the beauty and peace remain relatively intact, and motorists will generally find jam-free roads.
Apples and hops are the traditional crops of Herefordshire, and the cider industry is still a thriving one.
In western Herefordshire perry is something of a speciality, the drink being made on similar lines to cider but with pears instead of apples.

Herefordshire is a traditional and ceremonial county and unitary district in the West Midlands region of England in the United Kingdom.
It borders the counties of Shropshire in the north, Worcestershire in the east, Gloucestershire in the south east and the Welsh preserved counties of Gwent in the south west and Powys in the west.
When Celia Fiennes visited Herefordshire in 1696 she saw a countryside in which apple and pear trees were growing everywhere 'even in their corn fields and hedgerows'.

This gives alternative names which were sometimes used for places, and differences in spelling, most of which originate from the anglicising of the original Welsh placename - in particular, the Welsh "f" and "dd" sounds were often replaced by the English equivalent sounds of "v" and "th".
The List of Placenames also includes the names of local areas or districts, villages and hamlets that were part of larger parishes in the nineteenth century.
But that was before the explosive growth which took place from the middle of the nineteenth century, as a result of the South Wales Iron and Steel and Coal Industries exploiting the natural resources of the area.

If you use Marriott a lot, you presumably have a list of Marriotts, have found there's only two between Bromyard and Plymouth (both in Bristol), that they're both a serious drive from both places and that it really makes no sense at all to use Bristol as a base for visiting either Bromyard or Plymouth.
And we would prefer not to have to check in and out of 2 different hotels in 4 days, especially since we're going to already be doing a lot of traveling around during the remainder of the 3 weeks.
Herefordshire is a very pretty county, although you are only just over the Worcestershire borders in Bromyard, not really in the depths of the county.

The only place to park is in the lane outside the church, and the ground floor ringing chamber is reached through the back of the church.
Ross church is one of the largest in Herefordshire, and is almost entirely 13th C. The tower entrance is outside on the south side of the tower underneath a small canopy.

Although not a major English city, it is still a very big place nevertheless and certainly a lot easier to find than Wardour Castle from yesterday.
Bath is famous for the roman baths that reside there and we ended up spending the best part of the afternoon visiting the ancient site.
Bath is a very picturesque city but the £6 charge to park the brick in a coach parking lot for four hours took the edge of our enjoyment just a little.
