Hessen is in the middle of Europe and Hessen is aware of this fact.
Hessen’s northern residence city of Kassel is often at the centre of living art and culture in Europe, while the southern residence city of Darmstadt — unique in Europe - captures the history of our earth from almost 50 million years ago.
Hessen has a finely-woven, encompassing network of cultural institutions, of local and regional museums, orchestras, theatres and exhibitions which make the State into a cultural venue for its residents as well as people interested in culture in Europe and the world — wherever they may be in Hessen.

beimami » Too Sick for Hessen?
Based on a psychological evaluation in 1988, the teacher was apparently declared legally disabled and went into early retirement — with a monthly pension of 1900 Euros (about $2300).
Now, to make a convoluted story short, the school system ordered another evaluation of the teacher (a rather mock evaluation) that declared the teacher mentally capable of working and, as a result, his pension was cancelled altogether.
The teacher sued, and the court ordered another evaluation that determined the teacher to be too ill to teach in Hessen, but well enough to teach in Switzerland, where the working conditions are ostensibly better.
