 Venice Commission - Commission de Venise
The party is a public union formed on the basis of individual membership of citizens of the Republic of Armenia, the aim of the activity of which is to participate in the political life of the society and the state.
Formation and activity of such parties, whose aims or activity are directed at violent overthrow of Constitutional order of the Republic of Armenia and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, impairment of grounds of independence, formation of armed units, instigation of national, racial and religious hatred, incitement to violence and war, is prohibited.
The party is the sole public union, which is entitled to nominate candidates in the elections of the deputies to the National Assembly, elections of the President of the Republic and heads and council members of local self-governing bodies.

 Political Parties and Movements in Azerbaijan
Although not officially a political party, the Front was allowed to field candidates in elections for the Supreme Soviet in October 1990, in which 25 of its members won seats.
The party was the first non-Communist party to be officially registered (June 1990), before the adoption of the "On Political Parties." The SDPA stands for the building of a civic society in an independent and democratic Azerbaijan.
This small party was formed in 1991 by current chairman Mais Safarli to advocate on behalf of Azerbaijanis left by the breakup of the Soviet Union on the territories of separate, sovereign states.
