 POLITICS in Lithuania
Following are the political parties participating in the election and submitted their lists of nominees for the 70 seats elected in "multi-candidate" (party list) and 71 seats in "single-mandate" (district candidate) voting.
The voting is by lists submitted by parties, or coalition of parties, with the number of seats distributed to the parties, receiving required minimum percentage votes, based on percent of votes cast for the list.
As voting is by party lists, a shift in this percentage will be an indicator of the level of support for his government and an early indicator for the parliamentary elections to be held 2004.

 partyform
The two general hypotheses were that political parties would matter locally and that there would be a relationship between voting in the sampled localities and the perceptions and values of the local political leaders.
Parties, which are not much used to get support nor seen as very important ways of people influencing decisions, are viewed as attracting people for social ends and as a way of building community rather than establishing governments in elections.
Second, political leaders everywhere differ on the place of a market economy, the role of government to intervene to assure that everyone has a job, that differences in wealth and income are not too great, and that the consequences of economic competition are regulated.

 Political Corruption: challenges and options
Most political systems include formal rules and procedures meant to restrain the exercise of political power and to safeguard human and political rights, but the formal establishment and existence of institutions of horizontal accountability does not in itself mean that they are efficient.
Political economy is most commonly used to refer to interdisciplinary studies that draw on economics, law and political science in order to understand how political institutions, the political environment and capitalism influence each other.

The Impact of Electoral Design on the Legislature
For example, in a plurality-majoritarian system, a party’s candidates could theoretically win 51 percent of the votes in each regional election, resulting in that party obtaining all of the legislative seats at the national level despite nearly half of the voters not supporting the winners.
It benefits broadly-based political parties, who must try to attract a majority of votes in a given race by acting as umbrellas to different interests -- rather than encouraging smaller parties that might exacerbate ethnic, religious or regional differences.
Small minority parties who have been unsuccessful in the plurality-majority elections may still be rewarded for their votes received by winning seats in the proportional allocation.
