Kaunda's UNIP party boycotted the parliamentary polls to protest the exclusion of its leader from the presidential race, alleging in addition that the outcome of the election had been predetermined due to a faulty voter registration exercise.
Zambia was the first African state to cooperate with the International Tribunal investigation of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
Zambia was active in the Congolese peace effort after the signing of a cease-fire agreement in Lusaka in July and August 1999, although activity diminished considerably after the Joint Military Commission tasked with implementing the ceasefire relocated to Kinshasa in September 2001.

South Africa's political party system underwent radical transformation in the early 1990s when previously illegal parties were unbanned and participated in the April 1994 elections.
Party members campaigned against military recruitment of fls (and Indians) in South Africa, arguing that the "natives" should not be sacrificed to perpetuate their own exploitation.
Party members reportedly persuaded the ANC to abandon African nationalism in favor of nonracialism, however, although the SACP, unlike the ANC, viewed the primary objective of the revolution as the creation of a socialist state.

The Republic of Zambia is a landlocked country in southern Africa.
Zambia's population comprises of about 72 Bantu-speaking ethnic groups but almost 90% of Zambians belong to the seven main ethnolinguistic groups, which are the Bemba, Nyanja-Chewa, Tonga, Lunda, Luvale, Kaonde and Lozi.
Zambia also has a small but economically important Asian population, most of whom are Indians.

But as in other areas of political life, what was originally intended quite literally to rest "in one man" (or "one body") is now part of a bureaucratic process that is both invisible to the Constitution and relatively free from public scrutiny or at least public attention.
Remember that it took a long time for there to be standing committees in Congress (not mentioned in the Constitution) and it took a long time for the multiple bureaucratic agencies to develop to help both Congress and the President with their legislative goals (not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution, either).
The distinction between "high politics" and "low politics" as advanced by Jack Balkin is relevant here, though: it's appropriate for courts to be engaged in battles over the politics of principle, but not appropriate for them to engage in the politics of (mere) partisan advancement.
