Politics of the Central African Republic takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President is both head of state and head of government (with an executive Prime Minister.

The Central African Republic (French: République Centrafricaine /ʀepyblik sɑ̃tʀafʀikɛn/ or Centrafrique /sɑ̃tʀafʀik/) is a landlocked country in central Africa.
It borders Chad in the north, Sudan on the east, the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the south, and Cameroon on the west.

The Central African Republic (CAR) is a poor country according to all traditional, albeit rather unreliable indicators, yet it is rich in natural resources such as diamonds, timber and unconfirmed recent oil discoveries.
Political transformation began in 1990 with an open letter by 253 prominent citizens calling for a sovereign National Conference, as established in Benin.
Some leaders of political parties associated in government are in open opposition to the president.

At the end of that year the republic was restyled the Central African Empire, and in 1977 Bokassa was crowned emperor at a lavish ceremony his country could ill afford.

According to most survivors, witnesses and human rights and humanitarian representatives, most of the perpetrators were members of the Movement for the Liberation of Congo (Mouvement de libération du Congo, MLC), an armed political group from the neighbouring DRC which had entered the Central African Republic in October 2002, at former President Patassé’s request.

According to Ethiopia's proclamation for party registration issued in 1993, to receive a license a national party should have 1,500 founding members with 40 percent of them expected to be regular residents of a region and the rest at least permanently living in four regions.
The SEPDC was formed on March 11, 1992 as a coalition of ten political organizations that had seats in the Council of Representatives (transitional parliament) and representing five regions (7, 8, 9, 10 and 11) formed by proclamation n°7/1984 (1992).
It favours a "democratic federal republic" where self-rule would be based on equality between the country's various nationalities and the defence of their common interests.
