Oregon Pacific Party co-founder Blair Bobier (right) says one reason people feel left out of politics is that their election-day choices are limited to Democrats and Republicans.
Bobier, a founding member of the Pacific Party, sees the growing number of independent voters--which has more than doubled in the last six years--as evidence that people are hungry for ideas from outside the two-party box.
Once minor candidates start winning seats--which is far more likely under proportional representation--unaffiliated voters and dissatisfied members of the big parties will be drawn to parties that better represent their views, whether they're anti-choice advocates unhappy with the GOP or militant tree-huggers upset with the Democrats.

 After the Elections: The Road to Political Stability in Iraq
Although the election results determining which party won how many seats will be the immediate focus of attention, in the long run the balance of power in the legislature will not be as important as the degree to which the various political parties can effectively cooperate within a national coalition to address Iraq’s many problems.
The number of seats won by Sunni Arab parties is expected to rise from 17 in the current parliament to somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 seats in the new parliament.
The increased size of the Sunni vote is likely to reduce the number of seats won by the political parties that were the biggest victors in the January elections: the United Iraqi Alliance, a Shiite religious coalition that won 140 seats, and the Kurdistan Coalition List, a Kurdish umbrella group that won 75 seats.

From 1981 to 2001, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), France was responsible for over 13 percent of Iraq's arms imports.
It has recently been reported that Saddam Hussein has ordered Iraqi domestic businesses to show preference to German companies as a reward for Germany's "firm positive stand in rejecting the launching of a military attack against Iraq." It was also reported that over 101 German companies were present at the Baghdad Annual exposition.
