A portmanteau (plural: portmanteaus or portmanteaux) is a term in linguistics that refers to a word or morpheme that fuses two or more grammatical functions.
"Portmanteau word" was the original phrase used to describe such words (as listed in dictionaries published as late as the early 1990s), but this has since been abbreviated to simply "portmanteau" as the term (and the type of words it describes) gained popularity.
The term portmanteau is used in a different, yet still not clearly defined sense, to refer to a blending of the parts of two or more words (generally the first part of one word and the ending of a second word) to combine their meanings into a single neologism.

Catechu is fixed by oxidation of the colouring principle, catechin, on the cloth after dyeing or printing; and treated thus it yields a variety of durable tints of drabs, browns and olives with different mordants (see Dyeing).
The principal consumption of catechu occurs in the preparation of fibrous substances exposed to water, such as fishing-lines and nets, and for colouring stout canvas used for covering boxes and portmanteaus under the name of tanned canvas.
Black catechu is official in most pharmacopoeias except that of Great Britain, in which pale catechu is the official drug.

pseudo-blend = an abbreviation whose extra or omitted letters means that it cannot stand as a true acronym, initialism, or portmanteau (a word formed by combining two or more words).
This means that only alphanumeric characters have any significance in determining order, and that lowercase letters occupy the same ordering position as uppercase (in tie-breaker cases, list lower case first).

 Portmanteaus
A Portmanteaus is different than a compound word in that in many cases the words are combined using sometimes just part of the words rather than just putting the two words together.
Most compound words are easy to recognize (crossroad, classroom, overcoat), but portmaneous often slip into the language and become common words, and we no longer recognize them being created from other words (doodle, motel, or slang).
I couldn't find as many links for this, but then I bet some of you didn't even know what a portmaneous was.
