Every postal service (usually having their service area defined by national borders) has a different format and placement for the postal code.
Though usually postal codes are assigned to geographical areas, sometimes this is not the case: special codes may be assigned to institutions with large volumes of post, such as government agencies and large commercial companies.
In the Åland Islands, the postal code is prefixed with "AX", not "FIN".

Postal codes in the Structured Carrier Message exclude intervening spaces and hyphens present in the eye-readable form of the postal code, so comparisons should be with a database constructed to the rules of the Structured Carrier Message.
The postal code shall be decoded based on the mode of the encoded MaxiCode symbol: Mode 2 indicating an all-numeric postal code; Mode 3 indicating an alphanumeric postal code.

Given a code, returns a list of areas where that code is allowed.
Validates Portuguese Postal Codes (that's the four digit code; in order to validate the seven digit codes of the form xxxx-xxx we would need a huge list of codes that would probably change every day).
