Some reporters or exponents of advocacy journalism single out examples of listed programs of questionable educational or informational value while conveniently forgetting to mention that broadcasters also list many more programs that definitely are educational or informational.
Thus, it is increasingly more difficult, both logically and legally, to justify legislation or additional regulation imposing program restrictions or quantitative children's educational requirements on broadcasters when a great and ever-increasing variety of program choices are available to the public for just a twist of the dial or the insertion of a VCR tape.
For its research purposes, the NAB used the government's definition of educational/informational TV programming as "programming originally produced and broadcast for an audience of children 16 years old and younger which serves their cognitive/intellectual or social/emotional needs." For all practical purposes, the fight over additional children's programming is over.

If Nickelodeon does not rethink the timing and variety of its "classic" programming lineup, the station is no doubt doomed to be the exclusive domain of rugrats and their out-of-work parents.
Nickelodeon jumped when the producers became too focused on Rugrats and the very tip of the iceberg in their ratings chart, and took off shows that were doing QUITE well.

CBS (an abbreviation for Columbia Broadcasting System, its former legal name) is one of the largest television networks, and formerly one of the largest radio networks, in the United States.
It is sometimes referred to as the Tiffany Network; the nickname is either a reference to the perceived classiness of CBS programming, or an allusion to some of the first demonstrations of color television, held by CBS in a former Tiffany building in New York City, in 1950.
Its unique format of telling a contemporary version of the story in the form of faux news broadcasts had many CBS listeners panicked that invaders from Mars were actually devastating Grovers Mill, New Jersey, despite 3 disclaimers during the broadcast that it was a work of fiction.

The U.S. Education Department has cut the money for captioning nearly 200 TV programs, citing a 1997 mandate from Congress only to pay for captioning of "educational, news and informational" programming.
Left unclear, however, is how many of the shows on the government's "disapproved" list have actually stopped being captioned.
Few first-run, broadcast network prime-time shows are affected; CBS says the network or producer pays to caption all of its prime-time programs anyway.
