  Airborne Combat Engineer: Vehicles
The Marines in particular are pushing hard for MRAP blast-resistant vehicles, as part of a desired policy change that would require all vehicles operating "outside the wire" in MNF-W (Iraq, Anbar province) to have MRAP-level protection; up-armored Hummers would then require specific commander's waivers.
The body of the vehicle is shaped to deflect the effect of roadside bombs and mines.
The complex water-jet propulsion system, designed to move the vehicle in excess of 25 knots (29 mph) through water, has led to cost overruns (leading the Marines to cut the number of vehicles in half to maintain the $10 billion program cost) and a major delay in projected deployment to 2015.

Panzer VIII Maus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The initial plan for the Maus was for the prototype to have been completed by the summer of 1943, with monthly production scheduled to run at five vehicles per month after delivery of the prototype.
Most of the life of the working Maus prototypes was in testing around Kummersdorf and at the proving grounds in Böblingen, but the V1 and V2 versions were also involved in one known mission in a combat area that ended in both tanks being over-run and captured by Soviet forces.
A prototype with a dummy turret broke down several miles away from the factory and was abandoned.

However, the western Allies did little to prepare for combat against the German tank despite their assessment that the Tiger was superior to their own tanks.

T-28 Super Heavy Tank - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The T-28 Super Heavy Tank (also called T-95 Gun Motor Carriage) was a prototype self-propelled gun, designed for the US Military during the Second World War.
It was originally designed to be used to break through German defenses at the Siegfried Line, and was later considered as a possible participant in an invasion of the Japanese mainland.
The original plan was for five prototype vehicles with a production total of 25.

Army Rations-Historical Background   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Misuse of the D ration as a combat food led to its unpopularity and replacement before the end of the war by the C and K rations.
The original combat lunch to subsist air crews on long-range flight missions consisted of unprepared and dehydrated items which were to be cooked or reconstituted by crew members during flight.
The Combat ration (later called the C ration) and the emergency D bar were developmental enterprises of the Laboratory during the 1936-41 period.

FCS: wheeled bombard & occupy fantasy "cash cow"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The wheeled FCS is the worst of all worlds: a vehicle that cannot move, cannot fight and cannot survive if hit by enemy non-guided weaponry not subject to electronic gadget countermeasures that relies on mouse-clicked pleas for bombardment from others to hopefully kill the enemy for it.
This means that close combat will require the continued use of tanks, which can respond more directly to local situations than long-range weapons and which, at the same time, provide heavier and more mobile firepower than dismounted troops, as well as being less vulnerable to many threats than the latter.
Robotic vehicles will have a role to play, particularly where the risks to manned vehicles are high or where their functions can be much more narrowly defined than those of manned vehicles, but the latter will remain more adaptable and versatile.

Another problem was river fording; the Maus could not cross any bridges because it was simply too heavy.
Also during the prototype testing, it was determined that if the Maus was to ever become disabled or stuck, it would take nothing less than two other Maus tanks to tow it.
It would have carried two 280mm guns (mounted in the same type of gun turret used in Scharnhorst and Gneisenau warships), a single 128mm gun, eight 20mm Flak 38 anti-aircraft guns and two 15mm Mauser MG 151/15 guns.

A joint venture, Satory Military Vehicles, was created by and Giat and Renault trucks to fulfil a contract awarded in November 2000 by the French Ministry of Defence’s procurement arm, the Délégation Générale pour l’Armament calling for at total of 700 vehicles (with 550 to be infantry fighting vehicles and 150 as command posts).
The nuts-and-bolts of building a future armoured vehicle is widely considered to be the easiest part of the FCS programme, even though no one has ever been able to build the dream machine described for the programme with its unprecedented demand to drop the weight while raising survivability.
Saying that these vehicles increasingly become an information platform rather than purely a fighting vehicle, he said, “One of the biggest difficulties is for the military customer to express the needs especially in the area of the manipulation and treatment of information.

The lists submitted by the two commands suggest that each desired to control the training of all units except those which were clearly organic to the mission of the other.
The first list delineating responsibilities for training specific units was issued by the War Department on 20 June 1942, but the compromise was not satisfactory to either headquarters.
While combat arms concentrated on tactical training, support elements were given practical training in their specialist roles and taught to work together in platoons and companies.

The author attacks the widely held belief that WWII was the "good war", the war in which America led the forces of democracy and freedom to victory over Germany and Japan.
He argues that the role of the USA in WWII was determined not by idealism, but by the interests of America's corporations and by the country's social, economic, and political leaders.

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons Of WWII PC Video Game Review by AceGamez
Secret Weapons of WWII is the second expansion for this excellent game, with the basic premise of giving players the ability to control vehicles and weapons from World War II that only ever made it as far as the blueprint/prototype stage.
Granted, it came with a nice selection of new maps and vehicles, but the additions in these areas were too few to really add much to the overall game.
Secret Weapons of WWII is a great expansion for an already extremely entertaining game and if you're one of those Battlefield fans looking for something a bit new or a bit different, Secret Weapons is the way to go.
