Psychology differs from sociology, anthropology, economics, and political science in part because it involves studying the mental processes and behavior of individuals (alone or in groups) rather than the behavior of the groups or aggregates themselves.
Psychology differs from biology and neuroscience in that it is primarily concerned with the interaction of mental processes and behavior and of the overall processes of a system, and not simply the biological or neural processes themselves.
Cognitive psychology is associated with a school of thought known as cognitivism, whose adherents argue for an information processing model of mental function, informed by positivism and experimental psychology.

 Berkeley Book List: Psychology and Cognitive Science
Psychology is about the scientific study of the mind, and mostly about the scientific study of cognition (emotion and motivation also matter, but these topics are much less well developed within psychology today), but most people initially come to psychology with an interest in individual differences.
Psychology is a science, situated at the nexus of the natural sciences (as in the study of mind-brain relations) and the social sciences (concerned with the relations between individuals and groups), but it is also a helping profession, with clinical psychologists joining psychiatrists and social workers in providing mental-health services to individuals, families, and communities.
My book list is supposed to be limited to about half a dozen books, but the range of psychology is so vast that this number can’t begin to encompass the work that is being done, and written about at a level that is accessible to the public.

Psychology courses numbered 444, 487, and 489 cannot count as advanced 300/400 level courses, although they can count toward the elective course requirement.
The Psychology and Sociology Departments offer a joint major emphasizing the theories, methods, and applications of social psychology, and the nature of social psychology as a subfield of both departments and a bridge between them.
