Radar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Early radars used very long wavelengths that were larger than the targets and received a vague signal, whereas some modern systems use shorter wavelengths (a few centimetres or shorter) that can image objects as small as a loaf of bread or smaller.
Radar jamming refers to RF signals originating from sources outside the radar, transmitting in the radar's frequency and thereby masking targets of interest.
Other mathematical developments in radar signal processing include time-frequency analysis (Weyl Heisenberg or wavelet), as well as the chirplet transform which makes use of the fact that radar returns from moving targets typically "chirp" (change their frequency as a function of time, as does the sound of a bird or bat).

Radar   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
Radar waves reflect in a variety of ways depending on the size of the radio wave and the shape of the target.
Early radars used very long wavelengths that were larger than the targets and received a vague signal, whereas modern systems use shorter wavelengths (a few centimetres) that can image objects as small as a loaf of bread.
This means that a radar has a distinct minimum range, which is the length of the pulse divided by the speed of light, divided by two.

Radars should register (when they start) and unregister (when the user clicks the "Quit" button) with the Airspace, so that the Airspace will know which Radar processes need to be updated.
If an attempt to call a method of a Radar fails, you may assume that the Radar is gone and remove it from the Airspace's list of active Radars.
For simplicity, you may limit the number of Cockpits to 10 and the number of Radars to 10.

The Courtroom (Police Traffic Radar Handbook)
Radar sample time, speed tolerance (accuracy), and target speed are also factors, but distance off target lane has the greatest influence.
For example a radar 90 feet (30 yards) off target lane with a 300 ms sample period and ±1 mph accuracy cannot measure targets (coming or going) traveling at 65 mph when target range is 230 feet (77 yards) or less.
Radar distance from target lane is the most important factor, the shorter the distance the harder to estimate speed visually.

Since solo periodically rescans the directory (every 7 hits) to recreate an internal data base for each radar ordered by time and version number and a rescan is also executed at the end of each editing pass, it might be prudent to try and keep the number of sweep files lower.
The Preservation List is a list of file names placed in a file in the same directory that contains the sweep files and actions eminating from the Delete Some Sweep Files widget will not affect files in the preservation list.
Also clicking on a sweep in the Sweep List will cause the time series start time to become the time to the nearest second to the start time of the sweep and the end time becomes the start time plus the time interval from the last plot.

 IFC - Acquisition Radars
Basically, the powerful radar pulse causes an arc in the TR tube (in the wave guide), and the arc, being a conductor reflects most the pulse away from the receiver connection, keeping the pulse from the delicate receiver components.
Radar receivers are very similar to your usual TV receiver, and in many ways simpler because we don't have to play such interesting games processing the audio and color video.
Unlike human listening, which is gathered from all directions, the radar antenna is designed to be very sensitive to radar waves from the same narrow beam or fan, and to be as insensitive as practical to radar frequencies from other directions (very useful in reducing accidental or intentional interference).

If radar transmit frequency changes enough between the time the signal is transmitted and the time the echo received, a speed error occurs (echo frequency compared to a changed transmit signal).
Radar speed measurements during first half second or so of transmitter (microwave Gunn diode oscillator) start-up are unreliable.
Radar detectors cannot detect the short 67 ms burst, the trade-off is the radar gets an uncertain and unusable measurement.

F-94 aircraft were scrambled after these targets, but the targets would soon disappear from the radar scopes as soon as the aircraft were in flight.
This explanation was rejected by personnel who operated the radars due to the fact that they felt that the targets were solid metallic objects and not due to anomalous propagation of radar beams (resulting from temperature inversions).
Most of the report was "filler" consisting of topics like how radar echoes are affected by weather anomalies, psychological implications, optics, plasmas, etc. Little space was allocated to specific UFO cases and all of the "unexplained cases" were put in the middle of the report.

Authorised equipment for the station was one Type 1A radar (Type 80), one Type 13 Mk V1, one Type 14 Mk IX, six Type 64 consoles, two Type 61 consoles, one 'A' Scope, three video mapping units and one radio link in lieu of a GPO phone line.
