 Knuckleball Pitchers
I had seen the list of pitchers who threw the knuckleball, but wanted to know if anyone had compiled a list of pitchers who made their living with the knuckler, rather than the posted list of guys (like Gibson) who threw it only once or twice in a career.
Neyer states that shortly after the knuckleball was introduced, there were a "great number of pitchers" who threw it, but simply referred to it as a "slow ball." Furthermore, in the 30s and 40s, Neyer says: "I suspect that something like half the pitchers in the majors occasionally threw a knuckleball." How times have changed.
Some nineteenth century pitchers, such as Toad Ramsey and Old Hoss Radbourn were known to throw a pitch called a "drop-curve" or "dry spitball" which in retrospect, some have said was a knuckleball.

 Relief Pitching - Baseball Fever
Relief pitchers have always been used as long as starters have been getting shelled, but the real change you are referring to came about in the late sixties, and very early seventies.
Prior to that, most starters went the distance unless they could be persuaded by their manager that they would help the team by hitting the showers.
Wilhelm was a modern relief pitcher although he was a great started for Baltimore at times, and Bob Grim had a great season in 1957 for the Yankees.

Hermanson finished 2005 at 2-4, 2.04 with 34 saves in 39 tries, although he lost the closing job to Bobby Jenks late in the season.
For the season, he finished 5-3, 3.13 with 33 saves in 35 chances — not bad for a guy who didn't get his first save until May 17 and whose spring training ERA was 9.68.
Most of his struggles came at home, where his ERA was 5.68 compared to 2.27 on the road.

For most of his career, Johnson depended on a sidearm fastball that left hitters shaking their heads in disbelief, and sometimes fear.
An intelligent and resourceful pitcher, he baffled hitters with terrific control and pitch selection (he walked just 1.6 batters per 9 innings over his career) and his magic pitch: the "fadeaway." This early form of a screwball, or reverse curve, was the greatest weapon in baseball in the early part of the century.

A pitcher hasn't led the Cubs in saves in consecutive seasons since 1994-95 (Randy Myers).
As such, fantasy owners might see him as a reasonable source of 20-ish saves in 2006 and call his name during their draft or auction.

Certainly having a number of quality pitchers who can pitch more than an inning, i.e., potentially the most ballyhooed but least important one, the ninth, is more valuable than a closer who gets fewer than one save opportunity every three games and is rarely used otherwise.
