Navy lists are divided into two - lists of ships and lists of men though the distinction is not exclusive; the lists of ships will often include their commanders and the lists of men will generally include the ships or shore establishments on which the officers were serving.
Indeed, many early army lists are called "Succession of colonels" and these list not just the colonel of each regiment for the time being but all the colonels back to the regiments' foundations.
Army lists are usually arranged by regiment or corps in order of seniority with officers listed by seniority within their unit and staff officers at the front.

One of the major observations from general officers who have served in Bosnia is that the army should place greater emphasis on assigning promising general officers to allied commands in preparation for leadership roles in future peace operations.
The stability operation in Bosnia required general officers to work in a multidimensional environment that constantly spanned the spectrum of conflict with a complexity of players, all with different aims and agendas, all affecting the outcome of a particular event.

Lawyers acting for the family of Baha Mousa, the Iraqi hotel receptionist who died in the custody of British soldiers in Basra 20 months ago, yesterday welcomed reports that the army is to investigate the role allegedly played by senior officers of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment in his death.
Colonel Jorge Mendonca, 41, the regiment's commanding officer at the time of Mousa's detention, is understood to be one of several officers whose names have been passed by the Ministry of Defence to the Army Prosecuting Authority in connection with Mousa's death and the alleged torture of eight other detainees.
The MoD's decision has infuriated senior commanding officers in both Col Mendonca's brigade and division, who argue that he should not be made a scapegoat solely because of his position in the chain of command.

British officers came on board to welcome the Marines and in due course departed with some of the senior brigade staff to confer about landing plans, camp areas, and missions.

Army units arriving in Iceland were well supplied with the latest clothing and equipment, and the Marines saw and soon acquired some of this gear.
