This short piece is, as is the case with all of Chopin's Mazurkas, technically straightforward, but is difficult to play well, as one needs to have a good grasp of the rhythm of the piece.
This short nocturne-like piece is a good piece in which a pianist can attempt to master the elusive art of the bel canto tone.

Liszt was the epitome of the Romantic virtuoso.
Wagner was strongly influenced by Romantic philosophy, especially the writings of Schopenhauer, which stressed the separation of the artist from society and the role of arts as a release--a transcendence of the bondage of daily living.
Romantic music still has an enormous influence on nearly all forms of modern (late 20th-century) popular music, especially film and TV music and so-called "easy listening music," which is often a watered-down imitation of Romantic cliches without either the inspiring philosophy or the depth of material.

In a very general sense, all art may be said to be romantic; for though it may take its materials from actual life, it transforms them and thus creates a new world which is necessarily to a greater or lesser degree remote from the everyday world requiring a subjective, and individual interpretation by the public.

This is Chopin's term for a long, dramatic piano piece suggesting a story.
An evening piece with two main meanings: 1.) In the 18th century, this was a composition close to a serenade for several instruments and movements; and 2.) In the romantic period of Chopin, it was a short lyrical piece in one movement for piano.
Historically, the Prelude is considered an introductory piece or movement performed before a fugue, an act of an opera, etc. Chopin and other later composers wrote preludes as short, independent piano pieces in a single movement.
