Muddy Waters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Waters was first recorded on a Mississippi Delta plantation by Alan Lomax for the Library of Congress in 1941.
Waters' own guitar playing was gaining notoriety due to his use of the bottleneck on electric guitar; his style was heavily influenced by Robert Johnson's acoustic style.
Muddy Waters died quietly in his sleep on April 30, 1983 at his home in Westmont, Illinois at the age of 68 (or 70, depending on the source for his birthdate) and is buried in the Restvale Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois near Chicago.

Muddy Waters -   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Waters played music anywhere from church picnics to disreputable juke joints, but he longed for a break from the hardscrabble life of rural Mississippi, so after a fight with a plantation overseer in 1943, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, and took a factory job.
Waters' best years both artistically and commercially were the 1950s; although he continued to turn out excellent recordings, his fortunes gradually began to wane as Chess Records turned their attention to rock and roll artists such as Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley in the mid 1950s.

Muddy Waters was born McKinley A. Morganfield on April 4, 1913 at a small enclave in Issaquena County, Mississippi known as Jug's Corner.
Muddy's mother died when he was very young, and her mother raised him.
By then, Muddy had further built his reputation with songs like "Train Fare Home" and "Screamin' and Cryin'." With his band, Muddy returned south in late 1949, triumphant, with their own show on KFFA; for many in the delta, it was the first time they saw an electric guitar.

phloem - Article and Reference from OnPedia.com
All of their functions of a sieve-tube element are carried out by its (much smaller but quite living) companion cell.
While movement of water and minerals through the xylem is driven by negative pressures (tension) most of the time, movement through the phloem is driven by positive hydrostatic pressures.
This causes water to move into the sieve-tube element by osmosis, creating pressure that pushes the sap down the tube.

The attraction of Waters' brand of blues is due to his brilliant blues artistry and his critical role in providing the link between deep Mississippi Delta blues and hard-edged, urban and electric Chicago blues; more than any other musician, Waters was responsible for the mesh between old and new blues in the early postwar period.
Waters' guitar work was raw and vital and executed with the same urgency as the blues of Robert Johnson and Son House, two of Waters' mentors.
