Tower Records - Reservoir Songs - Crooked Fingers
More of a fun aside than a proper Crooked Fingers album, 2002's RESERVOIR SONGS skips Eric Bachmann's usual blend of spirited rock & roll and confessional poetry in favor of a quick, righteously sloppy run-through of several of the covers the band uses to close shows.
The one track that doesn't quite work is a remake of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure"; by de-emphasizing that famous bass line, the very heart of the song is removed.
The choice of Diamond's "Solitary Man" is somewhat questionable in that Johnny Cash recently covered the same tune, using a similar arrangement, but Bachmann's radical revamps of "Sunday Morning Coming Down," "The River" and "Under Pressure" more than make up the difference.
