Songs About the Sun and Sunshine
The song itself does not address a specific person but rather the fact that there is a lot of sadness in the world and that we should try to overcome it by spreading all the sunshine we can.
The song was written at the height of America's involvement in the first world war and of course there was a heavy burden of sadness and gloom over America and the rest of the world.
The song is a very nice melody and all I can say is let it speak to you and may you enjoy the end of a beautiful day today and every day of your life.

That having been said, I am not sure that I would say they are the worst songs of all time.
Of course, I am not sure if I were to make a list of the worst songs of all time which songs would make my top five, but I can think of many contenders.
Having said all this, in all fairness, I must admit that if I were to create a list of the worst songs of all time, it would certainly show a bias against certain genres.

 The city's jazz songs - Music - Entertainment - theage.com.au
Beethoven's Fifth is hackneyed - it's been used for all kind of things - but it is still a brilliant piece of music and any orchestra in the world would love to have a crack at it.
The music itself sparks off ideas and possibilities and musicians generally get their enjoyment from trying to make their ideas and interpretations work: which means that someone else hears the same thing that they hear, and feels something similar to what they feel.
To be dull is considered better than to be flawed, even when they know in their hearts that to be dull is to be flawed.

Victor Herbert, His Life & Music
Musically, the song is the most whimsical I've heard from Herbert and though I generally think much of Herbert's work is ostentatious and sometimes far too serious in tone, this song proves that he had a side that was much lighter.
Among his more serious works were a second concerto for violoncello, a number of suites for orchestra, a symphonic poem, and at least one film score for the movie, The Fall Of A Nation (1917).
With a lot of heartfelt emotion the song is a beautiful tribute to the common man. I think it is absolutely touching and regardless of some biographers' belief that his artistic decline was well underway by now, this song absolutely belies that argument.

latimes.com: Songs in the Key of Presidency - October 11, 2000
The presidential campaign song has a grand, bizarre tradition, but the role of the themes has changed dramatically in the years since Van Buren was bedeviled in verse.
This year, however, the songs are relatively anonymous, last-minute selections and come from artists who are neither superstars nor, it turns out, particularly committed to the candidates invoking their handiwork.
Campaign songs have been a part of U.S. presidential politics since the beginning, and the tunes offer a telling, sometimes bizarre commentary on the winners and losers for the nation's highest office.
