A Florida special session in early 2000 resulted in an enactment stating the intent of the Legislature to reduce delay in capital cases and ensure that all appeals and post-conviction actions in capital cases are resolved within five years of date of sentence of death.
In response to a state Supreme Court decision, Washington clarified that all prior convictions be included in a defendant score under the guidelines and in accordance with the law in effect on the day the current offense was committed.
It requires that county or state corrections officials collect registration information and forward it to the state police before an offender is released, and requires law enforcement officials to notify schools and child care facilities located within one mile of the residence of a registered sexually violent predator.
