The New Standards Project, organized as a consortium of approximately 20 states and several large-city school districts, was initiated in early 1991 with the intention of having the standards and assessments operational by 1995.
The results of the assessment must be reported at the state, district and school levels and done in a way that clearly communicates the results of student performance to all Wyoming constituents.
In large states, this is a relatively small percentage of the student population, but in small population states like Wyoming, almost half of the students in a given grade participate in the state-NAEP.
