During the ascendancy of the Mongols, many notable leaders, including Hulegu (the first Ilkhan), belonged to this church, and though reliable statistics are not available, it is likely that this church, whose remnants today number at most a few million, boasted the largest population of any Christian denomination.

The amendment, which was introduced by state Rep. Mickey Michaux, a Durham County Democrat, was one of at least three proposals in the House aimed at tapping the $126.3 million windfall.
Lawmakers directed state Treasurer Richard Moore last year to borrow the money through a nonprofit corporation under a complicated lease-purchase agreement, meaning the borrowing would be off the state's books and so would not require a public vote.
State officials were divided as to the cost of lease-purchase financing compared to conventional borrowing.
