Connecticut state   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Connecticut was the fifth of the original 13 states ratifying the Constitution of the United States on January 9, 1788, and it played an important role in the development of the United States.
The state’s armaments industry was an important supplier of firearms during World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945), and the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine was launched from a Connecticut shipyard in 1954.
It established the present form of the Congress of the United States: a lower house in which the states are represented on the basis of population and an upper house in which they are represented equally.

New York was the preeminent U.S. state in commerce and manufacturing from the early 19th century until the late 1960s, when it began to be surpassed by California; in the 1990s it continued to be a leading component of the U.S. economy and remained first in many branches of economic activity.
The New York City area, the state’s most important economic hub, contained the world headquarters of some of the nation’s biggest corporations, was one of the world’s principal centers of finance and international trade, and had highly influential broadcasting, publishing, and advertising industries.

So, when the West India Company stated that such a course might be forced upon them unless they should be granted a subsidy, "in order that the colony should be placed in a safe and prosperous condition," the States General did not dismiss such a request summarily.
The States General, though not very strong at that time, had, of course, a certain degree of authority over all the provincial governments, and it was their wish to establish or to get the Company through its provincial Director to establish a governmental system like that of the home provinces in New Netherland.
His inertia in certain dramatic situations was rather the demand of the national state of politics than the manifestation of craven characteristics in himself.

Historically, for at least 700 years prior to 1664, the term was used for constitutional articles of this kind, what in the Ashkenazi world were referred to as takkanot hakahal, implicitly or explicitly describing the process of drawing up and identifying those articles as much as the articles themselves.
It was not until the founding of the State of Israel that the issue of Jewish political studies was even raised in the scholarly community.
In another irony, the establishment of the state in 1948 coincided with the ending of the modern epoch and the beginning of a postmodern one, two of whose major characteristics were decolonization and a revising of attitudes on racism and non-European peoples.
