Appendix D: State Commentary   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
The State does not collect the information needed to calculate the number of child victims who were reunited with their families in the previous five years.
According to State regulations, counties are allowed to screen out reports when the situation has already been assessed or investigated, when the allegations as reported or discovered during the screening process do not meet the legal definitions of child abuse or neglect, or when the child is not in the county.
As a result, The State's NCANDS data for CY 2001 reflects a period of four months where the majority of all reports were listed as "alternative response" (victim or nonvictim) and approximately eight months in which a disposition was reported.
