 Alabama Governor Andrew Moore
In 1839 Moore was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives as a Democrat, reelected in 1842, and thereafter served four consecutive terms.
Moore advocated the relocation of the state capitol to Montgomery and delivered the last speech in the old Hall of the House of Representatives in Tuscaloosa.
Moore advocated state aid supplemented by federal land grants to promote railroad construction and he particularly favored efforts of the Alabama and Alabama River Railroad to connect the northern and southern areas of the state.

 Louisiana State Museum
During the antebellum era, that period of the nineteenth century that preceded the Civil War, New Orleans was the largest city in the South and the fifth largest city in the nation.
Many former Whigs in Louisiana and other southern states joined the American party, whose members were called "Know-Nothings" because when asked about their secretive rituals, they replied, "I know nothing." The American party was anti-Catholic and anti-foreign, but Louisiana Know-Nothings downplayed the first and emphasized the latter.
State monies were never adequate to operate the school, and in the 1880s it became the private Tulane University with a large gift from philanthropist Paul Tulane.

In 1831 Pennypacker was elected to the House of Representatives and lobbied on the passage of bills concerning commerce, education, and transportation.
John Greenleaf Whittier, another celebrated abolitionist, said of Pennypacker, "In mind, body, and brave championship of the cause of freedom, he was one of the most remarkable men I ever knew." After slavery ended, Pennypacker attempted to rejoin politics.
As a member of the Prohibitionist Party, he unsuccessfully ran as state treasurer of Pennsylvania in 1875 which marked the end of his political career.

 Cheektowaga, New York City Tour - City of Cheektowaga.
By legislative act, on March 22, 1839, Amherst was divided into Amherst and Cheektowaga, with the latter including all of the land from its present northern boundary south to a line near Cazenovia Creek and the present Village of Ebenezer.
The list of first town officials included names of many of its earliest citizens.
The Ebenezer villages, and farms around them, became the nucleus of the township of Seneca (West Seneca) that was separated from Cheektowaga, Hamburg and present Orchard Park on October 16, 1851.
