	Inside Iowa State: Iowa State University
		During its Sept. 17 meeting in Ames, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, confirmed that full state funding of employee salaries would be its top request to the 2004 Iowa Legislature.
		The regents also passed a motion seeking $12 million in new state funds next year to replace faculty positions lost over several years of state funding reductions.
		Forsyth argued that, given the reality of the state budget, it makes sense to set some priorities (thus reducing the regents institutions' wish list to the Legislature) and argue hard for them.

	Shishmaref Teams Up to Fight Tuberculosis
		During the annual Shishmaref school tuberculosis (TB) skin test screening in October 1995, 4 healthy children were found to have newly positive TB skin tests.
		By December 5, 1995, 10 people (four were children) suspected of having active TB disease were placed on four-drug antibiotic treatment.
		During December 1995 and January 1996, 3 of the 10 suspected TB cases were confirmed by sputum cultures.

	STD/HIV - Mississippi Department of Health
		In 1995, Mississippi was ranked #1 in primary and secondary syphilis nationally with a case rate of 78 per 100,000.
		By December 2002 it was no longer on the list of counties with high primary and secondary syphilis case rates.
		The number of new cases of HIV disease reported in Mississippi continues to decline, from 707 in 1995 to 580 in 2002.

		A North Korean spokesman in November stated that the DPRK opposed "all kinds of terrorism" and "any assistance to it." North Korea, however, continued to provide political sanctuary to members of the Japanese Communist LeagueûRed Army Faction who hijacked a Japanese Airlines flight to North Korea in 1970.
		The policy did not apply to citizens from three state sponsors of terrorismùIraq, Libya, and Syriaù however, because of bilateral agreements.

	California Sells Off Surplus Land
		This year, the state is working on a list of more than 20 eligible properties, says Matt Bender, spokesperson for California's State and Consumer Services Agency, which oversees the state's land.
		One is that state agencies might have little incentive to identify their buildings as being surplus-eligible since any sale of state land or real estate goes first toward paying off bonds and then back into California's general fund, not to individual agencies.
		Another issue, Gruen says, is that cities across the state, through their extensive planning and entitlement processes, effectively control the fate of state land sales.

		In September 1995, PPDs were placed on 362 previously PPD negative persons; 2 adult converters were found.
		One active case was in the village during April 1995 and could have been the source for these two persons.

		The three were among several persons linked to AJI, including AJI leaders Achmed Taufik and Liston Siregar, who were arrested by the police on 16 March after a seminar in a Jakarta hotel.
		AJI was established in August 1994 by a group of Indonesian journalists after the Ministry of Information revoked the licenses of the country’s three leading weeklies Tempo, Detik and Editor.
		This latest crackdown on AJI is regarded as an attempt by the Indonesian government to crush efforts to develop a press independent of state control.
