  Junkbusters Guide to Reducing Junk
You might imagine that ``do-not-call'' lists would move faster but many organizations get other companies to do their telemarketing calls for them, and the lists of targeted numbers are typically fixed weeks in advance.
If you tell a telemarketer ``take my name off your lists,'' the organization is actually required by U.S. Federal law to put your number on a list: their ``do-not-call'' list, and to keep this information in their databases for ten years.
One of four major list vendors includes a ``Connectability'' ranking, indicating on a scale of 1 to 7 how likely telemarketers are to able to get through to you.

Statisticians (who can go by a number of titles, including data analysts, business analysts, project managers, pharmaceutical engineers, to name a few) develop these useful numbers in a myriad of ways.
Statisticians with master's and doctorate degrees have better opportunities for advancement and are usually much more independent in their work.
Statisticians will find it easiest to find a job if they also have training in one of the fields where statistics is important, such as biology, demography, finance, engineering, or computer science.

Sampling from a random listing of centers is likely to produce a roughly balanced distribution across regions, but there is some chance that a bad "luck of the draw" will produce an imbalance.
To ensure that this does not happen but yet keep the sampling process random, one can order the master list so that all centers in the South are listed first, centers in the West are listed second, etc. Taking every nth case from this list will provide a sample that matches the regional distribution exactly.
Sampling statisticians have mastered the fine art of designing samples that optimize clustering in the face of these cost/efficiency tradeoffs.

Because of this history, not all statisticians regard statistics as a subfield of mathematics; it if often considered to be a separate, albeit allied, field.
As a practical matter, although statistics is taught in university departments as diverse as psychology, education, public health, and many others, it is most strongly associated with mathematics departments, as typically only the largest schools will afford statisticians a separate department.
