Triton (moon) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Triton is unique among all large moons in the solar system for its retrograde orbit around the planet (i.e., it orbits in a direction opposite to the planet's rotation).
The surface temperature is at least 35.6 K (−237°C) because Triton's nitrogen ice is in the warmer, hexagonal beta crystalline state, and the phase transition between beta and cubic alpha nitrogen ice is that temperature.
Triton is a geologically active moon with a complex and young surface.

 Informat.io on Triton Moon
Oddly enough, most of the references to Triton in the astronomical literature in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are to the name of a supposed Martian canal.
The surface temperature is at least 35.6 K (−237 C) because Triton's nitrogen ice is in the warmer, hexagonal beta crystalline state, and the phase transition between beta and cubic alpha nitrogen ice is that temperature.
Triton has a similar size, density, and chemical composition to that of Pluto, and upon verifying the eccentric orbit of Pluto that crosses the orbit of Neptune, we can track the origin of Triton as a similar planet captured by Neptune.

Triton has a complex geology history and it is believed to have a relatively young surface.
The surface temperature is at least 35.6 kelvin (−237 C) because Triton's nitrogen ice is in the warmer, hexagonal beta crystalline state, and the phase transition between beta and cubic alpha nitrogen ice is that temperature.
Surprisingly, however, Triton is geologically active; its surface is fresh and sparsely impact crater, and the Voyager 2 probe observed numerous cryovolcano or geyser s erupting liquid nitrogen, dust, or methane compounds from beneath the surface in plumes up to 8 km high.

 Triton (moon) (Decipedia.com)
Triton (TRY-ton) is named after the Greek sea god Triton, the son of Neptune.
After Flammarion's proposal, the name Triton was also independently proposed by others, but in 1909 it was reported as "not in general use".
However, Voyager photographed a 500 km impact crater, that was changed extensively by repeated flooding, slipping of ice, and collapses.

Celestial body's atmosphere jerak.org   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Earth, Venus, Mars, and Pluto have atmospheres that envelop their surfaces, as do three of the satellites of the outer planets: Titan (moon), Enceladus (moon) (moons of Saturn), and Triton (moon) (a moon of Neptune).
Second, the distance from the sun determines the energy available to heat atmospheric gas to the point where its molecules' thermal motion exceed the planet's escape velocity, the speed at which gas molecules overcome a planet's gravitational grasp.
Thus, the distant and cold Titan, Triton, and Pluto are able to retain their atmospheres despite relatively low gravities.

 Informat.io on Enceladus
Outgassing near the south pole, the youthful age of the surface, and the presence of escaping internal heat indicate that Enceladus, and the south polar region in particular, is geologically active today.
The plume was imaged before, in January and February 2005, but additional studies on the camera's response at high phase angles, when the sun is almost behind Enceladus, were required before they could be confirmed.
The combined analysis of imaging, mass spectrometry, and magnetospheric data suggests that the observed south polar plume emanate from pressurized sub-surface chambers, similar to geysers on Earth.
