A supervillain is a variant of the villain character type, commonly found in comic books, action movies and science fiction in various mediums.
By most definitions, the first supervillain was John Devil, a proto-Fantômas, created by Paul Féval, père in his eponymous 1862 novel, or Féval's nearly-immortal, machiavellian Colonel Bozzo-Corona, leader of Les Habits Noirs introduced in 1863.
The first supervillain who wore a bizarre costume was the Lightning, from the 1938 film Fighting Devil Dogs, which preceded the first modern superhero, Superman.

In a book that bills itself as the Science of the Supervillains readers have to feel right from the first page that this is an all-or-nothing kind of book.
Supervillains spends three pages weaving through the ins-and-outs of the arch-nemeses' convoluted, time-hopping history - thanks in no small part to the writer of their Foreword, Mr.
Overall, though, the trope of using supervillains to explore scientific notions feels artificial; they read as more of a vehicle by which to get the book on bookshelves in the hands of a wider audience than as a genuine attempt to analyze the superhero universe.

Fifty journalists and musicians (including Solomon Burke, Cameron Crowe, Patterson Hood, and many others) were enlisted to compile the list and were encouraged to vote for the songwriters they treasured the most—not the ones with the biggest sales or the greatest impact on popular culture.
The list itself ranges in age from Conor Oberst (26) to Hal David (85); in style from the aggressive politically-infused hip hop of Public Enemy to the cheeky twang of Dolly Parton; in outlook from the brooding, internal tumult of Morrissey to the unfettered, existential exuberance of The Flaming Lips.
The reason John Lennon is not on the list is that this is a list of living songwriters only.

Honorable mention: Thanos, who doesn't qualify on account of being a Jim Starlin knockoff of a Jack Kirby character (who's on the list), but who would otherwise qualify for, as the man said, being the kind of guy who'd kill half the universe just to impress Death enough to get in her pants.
If the list were opened to more than one villain per hero, Ra's al Ghul and Galactus (the ultimate high concept villain) would be musts, and Jason wisely adds some classic femmes fatales to the mix.

Space Ghost was a guy who could fly, even in the vacuum of outer space, and had super powers that mostly derived from little wristbands that could fire, you know, power beams.
They brought him back, essentially as a retired superhero who had a talk show, and his musical sidekick was one of the old villains that he used to have to fight.
But there's just something hysterical about a vain, self-involved ex-superhero and a supervillain who essentially is just a naïve little 11-year-old kid who is always getting in trouble.

This fictional company, appearing in comic book stories published by Marvel Comics, is notorious for its determination to make massive profits regardless of any laws or moral principles.
In the Ultimate Marvel Universe the Roxxon Corporation is also responsible for creating supervillains, although its owner, Donald Roxxon, seems to have little idea what the company actually does.
In Ultimate Spider-Man he was targeted by a former employee who took the identity of the Tinkerer, and hired Silver Sable to track down Spider-Man, as he believed the hero knew who was responsible.
