Test cricket - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Test matches are played between national representative teams which have Test status, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Test matches are a subset of first-class cricket, the form of cricket played over several days and officially declared as First Class by the Association of Cricket Statisticians.
However, with the entry of more countries into Test cricket competition, the desire of the ICC to flex its muscles, and a wish to maintain public interest in Tests (which was flagging in many countries with the introduction of one-day cricket), a new system was added to Test match competition.

DM's Explanation of Cricket - Statistics
Battng averages in one-day internationals tend to be lower than in Test matches, because there is no time to build truly large innings, and because the emphasis is more on scoring runs quickly than on not getting out, so batsmen more often sacrifice their wickets in an attempt to score faster.
During the second innings of a one-day match, the worm of the side batting second is usually overlaid on the worm of the first side, giving a good idea of the comparative run rates throughout the match, and a good indication of which side is currently in a stronger position to win.
During the second innings of a one-day match, the graph of the side batting second is usually overlaid on the graph of the first side, giving a good idea of the comparative run totals throughout the match, and a good indication of which side is currently in a stronger position to win.

The tuberculin skin test, in which the skin is pricked with antigens from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, had stood alone for more than 100 years as the method for detecting latent TB infection.
Having a test that allows health care officials to confirm a true TB infection is important because a positive test can lead to a six-month treatment of daily anti-TB drugs for the patient.
The workers were tested with both the traditional TB skin test and the interferon-gamma assay.

Cricket Web - Test matches vs ODIs   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Ive personally never understood why test matches are rated higher in terms of the pure performance aspect of batting at least.
Test matches are great but not only you should have a taste for it but it should be played between two really good sides and you never forget the story for the rest of your life.
The real reason why test innings are rated over ODI innings is that, in ODIs, a bowler can bowl only 10 overs at you, and after a few overs, the field is generally well spread out, so that false shots give you fours more often than they do in tests.

Cricket Test Matches - Contributing Batting Averages   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
In Part I, we argued that while the Test batting average is not as distorted by 'not-outs' as averages in the limited oversion version of cricket are, it nonetheless contains errors that are significant.
In Part II here, we propose the computation of a Test Contributing Average similar to the calculation we made for ODIs; the resulting figures, we are confident, are a better representation of the relative performances of batsmen over their careers.
Because test cricket is a two-inning sport, and because the better performing batsmen bat first in all sides, the not-outs in the long form of the game are a little different than in ODIs - typically, the batsman could have batted on, at least on paper, and compiled additional runs.
