Text game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A text game is a type of computer game that uses text characters instead of bitmapped or vector graphics.
Text games are typically much easier to write and require much less processing power than graphical games, and thus were more common from 1970 to 1990.
The advent of aalib has allowed games such as Quake to be played on displays that might otherwise not be able to display 3D games.

An adventure game is typically driven primarily by a narrative through which the player moves as the game progresses.
The fundamental elements of the adventure game model include a main character, a game environment, non-player characters, and objects; the player controls the main character, and can interact with the other elements.
The first adventure games to appear were text adventures (later called interactive fiction), which typically use a verb-noun parser to interact with the user.

 Reference.com/Encyclopedia/Adventure game
An adventure game is a type of computer game usually dominated by exploration, puzzle-solving, and interaction with game characters, with the focus on enjoying a narrative rather than testing reflexes.
In particular, the status of what are sometimes called action-adventure games as members of the category is largely in doubt, with adventure gaming purists (and, to a lesser extent, action gaming purists) labeling action-adventure games as belonging to neither the action nor adventure genres rather than to both.
Adventure games have been criticized because many adopt the attitude that 'the ends justify the means': a usual challenge is obtaining 'immorally' an item from someone reluctant to cooperate with the player, and the only way to solve this challenge is to distract him or her in order to steal the item by force.

 Discussion: Text Based Games
Well, they can have their stupid, puny little graphical games, but they should NOT call them MUDs, as that is just a plain lie.
These games are not MUDs, because the acronym MUD implies SOME usage of the mind.
I guess on the far end of the spectrum you have VR MUDs with no text at all - you speak through a microphone, all sounds are heard through your speakers, all descriptions are actually drawn on the screen.

 Definition of MMORPG
When a player logs in, they are represented in the game world by an avatar — a graphical representation of the character they play.
Some games such as Roma Victor and Project Entropia take this incentive a step further, allowing players to convert real-world currency to in-game currency such as "Sesterces" or "Project Entropia Dollars", which can then be spent on better equipment, and even houses, for their character.
Others also apply a special in-game appearance to staff members, such as making their character look different or changing the color of their name in the chat box.

Meanwhile, Baio has made it possible for players to save a game and then resume it later, something that Toner's earlier version of the script didn't do very well.
