Queensland veterinarians e-list for Qld emergency animal diseases   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Veterinarians in private practice and retired veterinarians are a valuable technical and human resource in the event of a major exotic animal disease outbreak occurring in Queensland.
Veterinarians need to be kept up-to-date with changes in legislation relating to animal welfare, animal disease control and acts of veterinary science, zoonoses and emerging infectious diseases.
The main focus for these lists is to provide a cheap and effective electronic method for providing up-dates from the Queensland Chief Veterinary Officer or the DPI and F Chief Inspector of Stock during emergency situations, or during times of high alert.

Preventing Zoonotic Diseases in Immunocompromised Persons: The Role of Physicians and Veterinarians
We found that physicians and veterinarians hold significantly different views about the risks posed by certain infectious agents and species of animals and communicate very little about zoonotic issues; moreover, physicians believe that veterinarians should be involved in many aspects of zoonotic disease prevention, including patient education.
Of 310 veterinarians, 96 indicated that they offer special consultation about additional steps for zoonotic disease prevention if they are aware of the fact that a client is immunocompromised; however, for 205 of 310 respondents, the client's health was never discussed (Table 1).
Our finding that 205 of 310 veterinarians never knew a client's immunocompromised condition is consistent with a previous study in which only 21% of HIV patients felt most comfortable in asking their veterinarian about the health risks of pet ownership (16).

Rural Heritage Vet Clinic - Is Your Veterinarian a Good Horse Doc?
Keeping in mind that all veterinarians make errors at some time, your veterinarian should be willing to admit when he or she is wrong and learn from the experience.
If your veterinarian always dismisses your concerns as those of an over-anxious horse owner, he or she is risking the possibility that you may be correct about something being wrong.
If your veterinarian refuses to give a particular treatment because he or she feels the procedure is too risky, for example, do not feel the vet is not giving your horse proper care.
