 A hundred years of immigration to Canada
Canada acceded to the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol.
Canada responded swiftly to an appeal from the UK to take some of these Ugandans (by September 5, a Canadian team of officers had set up office in Kampala), but initially insisted that the applicants meet the usual immigration criteria.
The people of Canada were awarded the Nansen medal by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, in "recognition of their major and sustained contribution to the cause of refugees".

 High Arctic Weather Stations - 50 Years of Operation - Environment Canada
That same year the first two stations were opened at Eureka and Resolute Bay, followed by Isachsen and Mould Bay in 1948 and finally Alert in 1950.
In 1970, the US withdrew their support for the stations leaving the program in the hands of the Canadian Government, at which time the stations were re-named High Arctic Weather Stations.
The list of visitors includes members of royalty, cabinet ministers and foreign secretaries of state.

 Slashdot | Do-Not-Call List, Two Years Later
Yes, saying "put me on your do not call list" is a simple thing to do, but doing so three times in one evening when you are trying to enjoy a DVD or play a computer game is very tiresome.
Seems to me that if someone screams "I'm on the do not call list" that should be good reason for a reputable company to never call the person again, regardless of legality.
Lastly, I think we need a "Do-Not-Fax" list, as it drives me crazy that people will send vacation offers (that are probably scams) to the office I work at sometimes (which is technically a residential number), and not only does it waste time, it wastes ink and paper.
